Quantum Leap?

I'm sure this question is asked often - but has anyone heard if and when the Quantum Leap series will be released on DVD?

Judremy 11-24-03 08:40 PM

Outside of the pilot that was released, the only thing I heard was that a season 1 box set was planned for this fall, but that has pretty much come and gone.

B.S.Preston,ESQ 11-24-03 08:47 PM

boy oh boy would it be cool 2 have this graet show come out on the DvD

ZackR 11-24-03 10:01 PM

I would be all over season sets of this. Quantum Leap was an old favorite of mine. I love it!

bboisvert 11-25-03 08:37 AM

Universal announced a season set over a year ago (along with a bunch of other stuff - Sliders, Rockford Files, Magnum P.I., Emergency, etc.).

... of course, nothing ever came out. Here's the thread asking about it:

That atleast shows that there is something being done on it. Hopefully it will see the light of day soon. If these sets are priced right I would be interested in picking them up.

No, but you might want to sign up for the Project Quantum Leap email list. The people in charge of that site have some connections to key players. Through them, I was able to send my suggestions for the DVD sets onto Universal. They will keep us notified of updates.

vivarey 01-23-04 01:08 PM

Oh, and FYI... 2004 marks the 15th anniversary of the show's debut (March, 1989)

Fok 01-23-04 03:15 PM

How many season's were there?

LasVegasMichael 01-23-04 03:20 PM

There were 5 seasons. On the above website, click on the "Episode Guide" link to the left for a breakdown by episode/season.

I find it very funny that Deborah Pratt, the voice of Ziggy (and the show's intro) was actually one of the producers. For me, an instantly recognizable voice. Let's face it, we all still have that intro memorized to this day.

There is no TV show I want more on DVD.

Exactly. Sledge Hammer! has been in the works for a long time too, according to thier fansite, but it is one of those, believe it when I see it kind of deals.

Until I hear a street date, it is all rumor (and even with the SD, it still can just be rumor; i.e. Ed Wood)

SPOILER WARNING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

No, he didn't. In the last two-part episode (which didn't have Al but a bartender named Al), Sam meets several of the characters he's played and interacted with in a PA mining town. He helps them after a the mine collapses. His reflection is that of himself. The bartender is a strange character. He either may be the almighty himself or just someone he talks through. In any event, it is explained to Sam that his destiny is to continue the work he's doing, and that he will never go home. Unexpected ending, and a very good two-parter.

It's a solid last episode and it's one of the high points of the entire series when Sam is granted his wish to be allowed to
Spoiler:
go back and have a second chance to save Al's and Beth's marriage which he does.

One correction, however: it is not a two-parter.

But it's not over yet:

another correction. Al was in the last episode. He interacted with Sam outside the pub.

Maybe this is why they are holding off on the DVD to tie it in with the new series. I read about it(new series) a couple of months ago on Cinescape's site.

As perfect as the ending was, it is a great setup for a continuation. And with Enterprise supposedly on the fritz Bakula could be free to do a handful of guest episodes. Not sure what Dean Stockwell is up to though.

So how "real" is this? i.e in production, a wish to do, what?

and any ideas if it will cause the dvds of the series to come out?

They announced back in 2002 that one of the series they would be releasing in 2003 was Quantum Leap. If I remember correctly, it's now 2004. I'm just assuming they are compiling multiple commentaries for every episode as well as deleted scenes, outtakes, featurettes, lost episodes, etc... so I can wait... *crossing fingers*...

A big :jawdrop: on the news that there is a TV movie for Quantum Leap. Excellent.

mikehunt 03-12-04 10:17 PM

occasional episodes of JAG as the secretary of the navy
jag is also a bellisario work iirc so it shouldn't be hard for him to do both

The following two quotes are from July 2002:

While talking up the recently announced QUANTUM LEAP TV movie set to air on the Sci-Fi Channel next year, channel President Bonnie Hammer told our own Eric Moro onetime series star Scott Bakula may be making a cameo.

Here’s what she had to say:

“QUANTUM LEAP is absolutely a classic. It’s done well on our channel in repeats and we’ve always wanted to do a QUANTUM LEAP reunion movie. And then when we started thinking about it and then we merged back with Universal, we said, ‘Wow, let’s do a two-hour movie. Let’s see who we can attract from the original series and let’s start our own. So we’re thrilled about that because [QUANTUM LEAP] is so pure sci-fi, but so mainstream that I think we’re going to pull in a whole new audience.”

When asked if Bakula would return, she said with a smile, “You never know. You never know.”

The Sci Fi Channel revealed yesterday it is developing a new QUANTUM LEAP movie, not involving Scott Bakula. Bakula, you may recall, is busy with a little show called ENTERPRISE.

In a statement to the press at this year’s Television Critics Association gathering, the network crowed, “QUANTUM LEAP, which is being developed as a two-hour movie that will serve as a back-door series pilot.”

As network president Bonnie Hammer said in the statement, “Projects such as QUANTUM LEAP… [are] exactly why SCI FI is excited about being part of the Universal family. We have an opportunity to access the rich Universal library - which includes a vast array of horror and sci-fi titles – to create new television experiences for a contemporary audience.”

The other Universal series Sci Fi is working on as an event is the four hour mini-series version of BATTLESTAR: GALACTICA.

Don P. Bellisario, who worked on the original LEAP series will executive produce. No word on the involvement, or probable non-involvement of Bakula or series co-star Dean Stockwell, but it’s expected to air next year.
and way back in January 2002:

According to an unnamed source at TV Guide Online, Universal Television is contemplating a QUANTEM LEAP reunion movie. The source informed the site that the studio was “exploring” the idea of reuniting Scott Bakula and Dean Stockwell in a two-hour network movie.

LEAP producer/creator Donald P. Bellisario had told the site earlier he’s been trying to get a reunion movie going for some time, but "Universal, who truly owns the rights to it, has never shown an interest."

What may have changed the studio’s mind is the newly expanded career of LEAP star Bakula, with his role on the surprisingly popular ENTERPRISE.
