What's the most expensive DVD movies you have seen on the market, including EBAY?
Out of curiosity, what's the most expensive DVDs you have seen selling on Ebay or anywhere else, including box sets?
I know limited music CDs go up in prices... A lot of my CDs were selling $100 a piece on Ebay in the past. I used to collect rare mixes in the early 90's...and I was amazed how much people were willing to pay for them. |
The recently released Rambo movies seem to fetch awfully high prices.

not a DVD, but the Song of the South HK LD gets over $1000.

Salò Criterion Collection

Wow...I was just on eBay and saw a Criterion Salo that sold for $799.00!

Originally posted by DVD-ho78(DTS) It's their money & probably a waste at that. I wonder if they will ever step back and look at what they are spending their money on. A single DVD of a movie that you can't really watch with family or friends. It might be released down the road in HD-DVD or whatever and they will be left with an OOP DVD of an inferior format. I guess I can understand their thinking; I mean who can live without the complete Criterion Collection and a rare DVD that is such a joy to watch. Seriously, if I had that DVD, after I would sell it for $800 I would immediately change all my contact info ;) |
I've seen some Japanese R2 anime box sets go for $400-500.00 easily. I've had my eye on a Great Mazinger box set that is the equivalent of over $500.00 and would be seriously tempted if only it had English subs (probably lucky for me and my wallet that it doesn't).

WOW! I'm in Japan, what are those anime sets which are going for extravagant prices anyway? I'll pick them up quick and start selling them!!!

I paid about $340 (American) for the 5-disc Gamera set from Japan (and another 140 for my first all-region player) late last year. The set includes the 3 most recent Gamera flicks (w/English subs, not dubbing), and 2 discs of supplemental material.
The movies were released this year in the USA, but had little or no extras. Heck, the faux-turtle-skin box was worth it all by itself on the import! |
I don't have the magazine at my side so I'm not sure the exact pricing, but a super limited edition (something like 15 copies) of Mathew Barney's Cremaster Cycle were supposedly made and were to be sold for somewhere between $10,000 - $15,000. The market was high end art collectors, museums and art venues. They had scupted cases and it included Cremaster 1 - 5.

I sold my copy of This Island Earth recently for around $260. For that kind of money, I'll live with the laserdisc!

I seem to recall a R2 Star Trek: The Next Generation Borg Cube Mega Set that was rather pricey.
