the international theatrical trailer has different widescreen framing than the R1 disc.

don't know if that means anything or not.
i'll try to post some caps of it later.

apart from the disappointment of less KL boob and butt shots, the framing seemed good me on the widescreen disc (never saw this one in the theater).

There is a section on the T2-UE that explains the whole Super35 framing process, and how they RARELY actually use the whole print.
Pretty much everything is zoomed to one degree or another. Its extremely easy now that the film is digitized.

Its not unheard of for a 2.35:1 movie to be zoomed for the DVD. The reason is that some DVD producers feel that a 2.35:1 image will look VERY SMALL on an average size TV.
So, they zoom the image slightly to make J6P happy. But they keep the ratio the same to keep the OAR fanatics happy.

A famous example is Ben-Hur. It was severly zoomed, but the 2.70 ratio is kept the same.

I think a zoomed widescreen movie IS WORSE then a pan/scan movie, because a P/S movie ONLY has the sides chopped, while a zoomed movie has both the sides AND top chopped.
But... now that J6P is starting to buy 16x9 TVs, I think we will see ALOT more things zoomed to make them happy.

Just great. Doesn't matter how they butcher it, zoomed, panned, shrunk, spindled, folded and mutilated, I still won't be buying unless it's what was up on that original movie screen.

There was no extra boobage in the theatrical presentation of T3 but the arrival of the TX scenes are missframed and zoomed in on the DVD for no apparent reason. Kristanna Loken did not look like a floating head when I saw this theatrically. Also, a clear example that this is missframed is found on the DVD (widescreen version, at least). Watch the trailer for T3 included on the DVD and you'll see her first arrival was definitely missframed. The trailer is presented in a framing of 2.35:1 just like the movie BTW.

So if I get the full-screen version, and put up my own mattes, will I get the correct theratrical version?

Maybe, but you are also wasting time for something that either doesn't exist or is a minor problem at best.

No, because in later scenes the full screen is missing information at the sides compared to the widescreen disc. This was confirmed in a comparison of the DVDs at another site. I wouldn't be surprised if you missed even more in the big CGI scenes.

Basically, buy the widescreen DVD and the only thing you're missing compared to the theatrical version is a bit of Loken at the very beginning of the movie. After that, it should be the same.
