Does anyone have any "DVD Traditions"?
 

I have a few traditions when I collect DVD. Every Halloween I try to collect a halloween centered movie and around Christmas I try and collect a christmas related movie. Does anyone else do this or any other kind of traditions?

Anything from the 70s that has a beleaguered cop and a gritty, realistic feel, I'll snatch it up as soon as it comes out. I don't seem to care how crappy it is.

It's a sickness, really -- and one that no pill or ointment can heal.

I have a ball of white security strips from my DVD boxes that I add to everytime I buy a new one. It's about 5 inches in circumfurance.

I almost always open my DVDs in the car, before leaving the store parking lot. Then the first thing I do when I get home is add them to my dvd list. :)

Whenever I get a new dvd I must watch it alone, in the dark, in my hometheatre/bedroom.

A new DVD cannot be opened until after it has been entered in both my private DVD database and DVD Profiler. The first viewing MUST be in my home theater on my HDTV... The only exception to this is TV show DVD's. Titles like Friends and Family Guy are great to watch in the bedroom before going to sleep.

I don't know if they are traditions as much as weird DVD OCDs I have.


- I ALWAYS read the entire back of the box before opening a DVD.


- I ALWAYs watch every single most minute extra on a DVD before I actually put in with the rest of my collection.

- Anything Samurai related I buy.

I have a weird tradition:

If it's cool movie I like..... I buy it.




Seriously.... I'll take the wrapper and ball it up. Then I'll wrap the security stickers around it. I'll then stick the sensor on the ball... then aim for the trash. He shoots! He scores! [crowd goes wild]

I just buy it stack it on my shelf and hoping that I get time to watch them.

I invite all my family over, we have a few drinks, pass the wraped DVD around for a while just to tease the crowd have you...

Then we hold a raffle, sell the tickets and put all the stubs into a large 19th century Top hat. We put the hat in the middle of the table with the wraped DVD covering the top. I then make some pop corn, mix a few more drinks and spend the next 20 to 25 minutes doing the acual raffle. The winner gets to open the DVD. And we stick the tape and little black security tag on the winners forehead while that person gets up on the table to do our traditional DVD dance.

The whole process takes a little over 14 hours, so by then everyone is drunk or tired and passes out or goes home.

So I end up selling it on eBay without even watching the darn movie...???

But the dance is always worth it :)

I actually have a ritual I go through every time I get a new DVD...

First I pay the guy at the register.
Then I get the disc home and open it...
After that I throw away all the wrappers and security strips.
And fianlly I watch it.

Ahhh the joy of DVD shopping...

I leave mine wrapped until I watch them.

I know I really should unwrap and check the contents for damage but I like to leave them wrapped up so I know what ones I havent seen yet.

1) I carefully take the top security sticker off the top of the DVD (has the title on it) and place it on the inside cover of all my DVD's.

2) I immediately enter the title into DVDrofiler and upload.

3) I have a set of shelves that I place new DVD's on until I can get around to watching them. I then transer the DVD's to my regular storage cabinet.

I too have to enter my new DVDs in DVD Profiler, refresh my profiles and upload my collection before watching.

My newest thing is to post comments on my personal blog about the DVDs I got right after I watch them. Only been doing that for 2 months or so.

I should want to buy lots and lots of DVD's.

I shouldn't have to masturbate after I open every one...

I use a knife or razor blade to slice the security stickers down the middle and then pull them off from the slice outward in order to avoid warping the clear plastic cover (if you pick at the edge of the security sticker with your nails you almost always end up with a little ridge in the plastic where you started the process). Other than buying too many DVDs, that's my only fetish.

Exactly what I do . . . my cases look so much better since I've started doing it.

I have a DVD tradition!

Every year at Christmas I buy the new wave of Walt Disney Treasures DVD's...oh, wait...so much for that tradition.

I lick the inner hub clean

After I open up the disc (in the car, as soon as I get home, or as soon as I get the mail), I spin the discs so that they are right side up in the case. I do it after I watch them, too, and with CD's, as well.

A small beach ball and
some electric blue squeeze Parkay

new DVDs stay in wrapper until I get home then
straight to the computer, log it into my personal database then open it up...read all materials...then watch the EXTRAS first...the watch the film with any interesting commentaries and then watch it normally.

I do the razor thing as well.

every year....at least 1 huge lie to the I.R.S., so I can buy more dvds.
