Any news of the secret meeting at Lucasfilms today?

Its November 5th and I have been waiting to hear any feedback about what secret battle plans Lucas has in store for us. There is suppose to be a meeting today and everyone invited got a nice invitation to the event. I was hoping on hearing something soon, but no one has posted anything yet.

Okay, this is what I've heard (don't spread it around):

Spoiler:
George Lucas and a bunch of his friends are getting together over the weekend and flying a private jet to New Zealand, where they will beat up Peter Jackson.

If they were to tell you, it wouldn't be a secret!

I thought it was a meeting for marketing guys and licensees to get together to plan the next wave of overpriced junk and collectable toys.

Holds out hope for the OT on DVD.

Rumor was that it is about the marketing of Ep.3. But since when have they needed big secret meetings to unveil that they will have action figures, party supplies, and ties to some fast food chain?

I seriously don't get the Peter Jackson vs Geroge Lucas jokes

So, you may not like Lucas' recent stories. Fine. He wrote something he thought would be cool and maybe it didn't pan out. So?

Jackson has it EASY. Take an existing story that has been proven to be a hit in the book realm. Why should he get any credit? It's Tolkien's story.

A Lucas vs Tolkien comparison is legit as far as which story you like better.

While you are correct, Jackson has done something most screenwriters have tried many times and simply haven't been able to do, and that is to write an adaptation that is faithful to the book. Most films based on books are not faithful to their original source, the Lord of the Rings trilogy is.

Still, he paraphrased an existing story.

Lucas had to create his story from scratch.

OK, you have posted this in two threads already. Believe me, I WANT that to be true...BUT... please shed a bit more light on it...

How do you know for sure? Were you at the meeting? If not, what is your source?

If you were at the event or "in the know," did he (the flanneled one) say which "ORIGINAL TRILOGY"?? The SE's or some pre-97 version...or something completely different??

Again, I WANT to believe you so badly (especially if it were to be a pre-97 version)

A little more info would be greatly appreciated!

Are you freakin' serious, man? To take one of, if not THE biggest fantasy stories of all time and try to capture as much as possible on celluloid and have it coming out so well is one hell of an achievment in my book! Adaptation is far more difficult than rendering your own creation as you have to deal with far more preconceived notions in people's minds, and in the case of LOTR you've got several decades of those.

No it isn't. FotR was pretty accurate with regards to the book, but the Two Towers was not faithful at all. If you want to be faithful you don't add in stuff that never happened or make characters do the complete opposite of what they are meant to do.

Don't also forget that PJ was able to to create quality movies under the scrutiny of and, for the most part, meeting the expectations of the fans of the LOTR story.

Take a look at SW Ep. 1 & 2 and tell me that Lucas was able to do the same for the fans of the SW story.

To say Lucas' story is original is stretching it a bit, I think. He freely admits he took elements from several other stories and kind of put his own spin on them. Let's face it, there are very few original stories any more.

I understand the meeting became very contentious and violence broke out.

Greedo shot first.
