alien Quadrilogy question...
Pardon me if this has been asked, Why isn't FOX releasing 'Aliens' with DTS audio, As the original THX release of 'Alien' was great enough, why not release 'Aliens' with DTS audio?
As this is the only one of the 4 movies that I ( and I suspect many more people), want with DTS, I believe that FOX has made a big boo-boo with this release. Anyone else agree?? Jezza |
From my post on this thread . . .

DTS is overrated anyway. Who needs it? ;) [/tc] |
Yep Digital Bits talked about this in their review. It was either DTS or a lower bit rate on the picture I THINK is what they said. Still waiting for that Alien 3 review sometime today...

Anyone else agree?? Jezza That being said . . . I don't really think they "made a big boo-boo" because the film was never available in DTS anyway. We're lucky to have 5.1 . . . I can't help but find it a tad hypocritical when people insist on watching & buying films that are only presented in their Original Aspect Ratio. Yet they complain when the studio doesn't alter the soundtrack from it's original mono or 2.0 stereo mix. I really do understand where these folks are coming from. Since the early days of Laser Disc, I have amassed a pretty respectable home theater system. Whenever possible, I like to see my creation pushing the envelope with the most aggressive DTS or 5.1 tracks . . . but . . . I try to maintain balanced, realistic expectations in regards to older films. Sure it's nice when a studio goes back and remixes a soundtrack, but I feel they are obligated to include the original mix for the purists out there. In the case of a movie like Aliens, I couldn't really care less if it isn't in DTS. They gave us the extended cut and a 5.1 mix. That's way more than the film had upon its original release and the practical side of me thinks that should be enough. Just my two cents . . . ~Cheers~ |
