February 3?!? I hope that's true; I'd heard it wouldn't be out until March.

Anblue 11-04-03 09:35 PM

Anyone know the specs?

timmy o'toole 11-04-03 09:46 PM

I hope it has the same specs as the R2 release along with the same cover.

the narrator 11-04-03 10:25 PM

hopefully it's the right street date...i've been waiting for this long enough

I couldn't wait any more - just got the R2 last month, and hopefully the R1 will get the same extras which included a commentary, music video, and several "featurettes" (my favorite: Pie Plates Over Hollywood).

abintra 11-05-03 03:56 AM

I came to check to see if someone posted the date also.

VideoETA just added a bunch of February releases a few hours ago and they have the 3rd date also.

Flesh & Blood is also coming that day with Blow-Up and The Mystery of Rampo later in the month.

highdef 11-05-03 05:35 AM

Great news! Now if it actually comes out...that's a plus.

Cornelius1047 11-05-03 07:16 AM

This better be true. The e-mail from Amazon was enough to make my heart skip a couple beats. This is probably one of my own holy grail DVDs. I was sick of waiting, so hopefully I won't have to anymore.

Hmm.... I'll believe it when I see it. It's #49 on Amazon sales, so it's fairly obvious that there are a lot of people who have been waiting for this one.

The price seems kind of high, I'd expected this to be on Amazon for about $15.99, tops. Heck, I bought the R2 DVD last year for under $15 US including shipping. I expect the features will be the same, does anyone have a link that lists them?

CastleGrayskull 11-05-03 09:07 AM

I'm dreaming, but wouldn't a second disk with Plan 9 From Outer Space be a great extra?

It's the same SRP as the Roger Rabbit 2-disc Vista Series release.

That doesn't necessarily mean it'll be a loaded 2-disc set, but I hope it is.

Rob

renaldow 11-05-03 10:23 AM

It will be the same DVD's that they released and then immediately pulled last year, this isn't going to be a 2 disc set of any kind. The DVD's have been sitting in boxes in warehouses waiting for distribution for many months.

davisdvd.com has the specs up now and a confirmed february 3rd release date....looks to be a director's cut

chesola 11-05-03 10:38 AM

This was a long time coming but it looks like it will be worth the wait. Bring it on!

steebo777 11-05-03 10:51 AM

-worthy post for sure!

From DAVISDVD.COM:
Buena Vista Home Entertainment has at long last announced Tim Burton's masterpiece Ed Wood. Johnny Depp stars as the high-spirited movieman who refuses to let unfinished scenes, terrible reviews, and hostile studio executives derail his big-screen dreams. The long-awaited DVD arrives with a new anamorphic widescreen transfer and Dolby Digital 5.1 audio. Bonus features include an audio commentary (with director Tim Burton, actor Martin Landau, screenwriters Scott Alexander & Larry Karazewski, costume designer Colleen Atwood, and cinematographer Stefan Czapsky), deleted scenes, "Let's Shoot This F#*%@r!" behind-the-scenes documentary, the featurettes "The Theremin," "Making Bela" (a look at Rick Baker's amazing prosthetic work), "Pie Plates Over Hollywood" (realizing the offbeat and stunning visuals with production designer Tom Duffield), "When Carol Met Larry" (meet real-life cross-dressers and hear their take on the infamous filmmaker), an original music video co-directed by Burton and choreographer Toni Basil, and the original theatrical trailer. Look for Ed Wood: DVD Director's Cut on February 3rd 2004 with a retail of $29.99.
Doesn't sound like the same discs they were going to release to me!

F For Fake 11-05-03 11:04 AM

Great news! I can finally retire the laser...

Chad 11-05-03 11:36 AM

And just when I was about to buy the R2! I suppose I can hold out a little longer ...maybe.

D-Ball 11-05-03 12:10 PM

Great news. I was also close to getting R4 version. Glad I waited.

mikewendt 11-05-03 12:18 PM

Sounds great

theneobez 11-05-03 12:29 PM

Awesome news.

And yet it is. That's the exact same disc that's been out in R2 for quite awhile, and the original release R1 was an exact duplicate of the R2 feature-wise. There's nothing different or unique about those features and the features found on the original R1.

They are just releasing the same discs they pulled from distribution last time around, and at a higher price if Amazon is any indicator.

RobCA 11-05-03 02:26 PM

Was the earlier disc a director's cut?

If it's the same disc, why not release it now, instead of waiting three months.

shanester 11-05-03 03:47 PM

Cornelius1047 11-05-03 04:55 PM

Yeah, I don't remember there being any indication of the earlier release being a Director's Cut and this release seems to match its features exactly. So, what makes this one a Director's Cut? Is it really one? Kinda stupid that they take over a year to release a DVD they've already made (legal reasons, I guess), then raise the price and change nothing (not even the cover, I bet).

Methinks we should all write a letter to Buena Vista.

K

worrywort 11-05-03 07:32 PM

why February? Hollywood is all about synergy. The Oscars are in February and BV hopes to capitalize if Burton's Big Fish gets any nominations.

timmy o'toole 11-05-03 07:33 PM

For those that own the R2 release, how is the Theremin featurette? The Theremin is the greatest instrument ever made!

philo 11-05-03 11:00 PM

The earlier planned release didn't mention anything about deleted scenes on its cover. Any of the other foreign releases contain deleted scenes? Either someone screwed up on the list of extras or this disc is different. Hard to believe they'd scrap all those pressed discs though.

cinephan 11-06-03 01:49 AM

It's moved up to #12 on Amazon's best sellers. Looks like someone out there wants it.
