Which version of Small Soldiers to get?
So I'm watching Small Soldiers on USA right now and can't believe I forgot how much fun this movie is. I like it so much I decided I must buy it. One problem though.
There are two version: one with DD and with special features and a barebones DTS release. Amazon has them listed at the same price. DD version http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg...d&vi=tech-info DTS version http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg...d&vi=tech-info Obviously my receiver is capable of decoding DTS audio but I wonder if the DTS in this case is enough of an improvement to warrant the loss of the special features. Anyone care to comment? I'd really appreciate it. |
I have them both as well as the laserdisc. I like the full-bitrate DTS track since it sounds a little bit more beefier even compared to the DD laser. Extras were fairly minimal on the DD disc, and the only part I remember enjoying were the outtakes with David Cross and Jay Mohr on the floor repeatedly cracking up trying to get out a line. Tough call.

think of it this way... Do you watch the movie more or the extras more. I want the best experience I can get with watching the movie more, sine its watched the most. In this case, the DTS is th beter experience, as is the case with Saving Private Ryan and Road to Perdition where you get less with the DTS, but better sound is important to me

Considering how amazing the DD track is, if all I've heard of the DTS version is true, I cannot beging to fathom the experience I sadly missed out on. |
From the reviews at Amazon, it sounds like you'll be happy with the DD version.
