How many of your will not buy Universal Snappers...
because you know eventually they will be made into Keep cases? About half of my Universal DVDs that origionally came out in Snap cases have been redone in keep cases. In many cases it is the same movie, no changes. Because of this I have stopped buying Universal movies unless they are in Keep cases. New Line is still using them unless the make a 2 disc set (Blade 2) and in the case with WB (Matrix Reloaded). I guess all I can hope for with those two are future releases being all double disc.
|
I won't buy Universal snappers because well...I've never seen one. Only Time Warner companies use em as far as I know, and New Line has pretty much stopped with regards to future releases (not just double discs, not Willard and such). So...err...yeah

:hscratch: What you say?

As jaeufraser says... Universal has never used snappers. So I'm not sure exactly what you're talking about.

Image and Universal were were riding together in those days. :)
But Universal logo is on the cover. |
Those are all titles that Universal licensed out to Image in the early days of DVD. They are technically Image releases, not Universal.
During the same timeframe, Universal was releasing their own titles (Dragonheart, 1941, etc.) in keepcases. And, given that you're talking about those titles, I don't think I understand your question at all now. "How many of you will not buy Universal snappers"? Those titles have all been OOP for years and virtually all of them have disappeared from stores. No one is buying them because they aren't available. And I'm sure that if someone bumped into a rare one (Flash Gordon, This Island Earth, etc.)... they wouldn't avoid it because of the case. ;) |
I believe Amazon Women on the Moon was released by Image and has since been re-released by Universal as a Special Edition.

I buy dvds for the movies, not for the case.
Who the $%^^ cares what type of case it comes in? |
I'm hoping that since Universal has been re-releasing a lot of the OOP Image titles, that they will eventually release Flash Gordon. Hopefully as a Special Edition.
|
I've stopped buying flicks that are in snappers. The only reason for this is because I've got my snappers in a separate area (they're in a drawer!) from the rest of my dvds, and I've run out of space.
I've passed by a few catalog titles because of this, such as Shawshank Redemption. That, and I'm hoping that at some point it'll get a special edition release that it deserves. Same with the others that I've passed in snappers. |
I have a Double Idemnity Universal Snapper
|
Just to show off how "old school" I am, I have an MGM snapper!!! Take that.
The Year of Living Dangerously was released as a snapper by MGM, then as a keepcase, and then reverted to WB and is a snapper again. |
Silent Running might've been originally released in a snapper but it's been in a keepcase for some time now.

I would not pass up on a title just because of the case, unless it was one of the New Line titles that I know to be now available in a keep case. If it bothers you enough, you can make your own case or order a printed scan from www.dvdcoverart.com. |
never understood the disgust for the poor snapper. it's never been nothin' to twist my tit about....could really care less. I'm much more concerned with disc quality issues. if the disc is crap or defective....no case in the world will save it's ass. priorities....:p.
passing on films because of the housing for it? holding out for that proper case? you guys are blowin' my mind. |
I buy good movies. Don't really care much if it's snapper case or not.
|
I avoid snappers. I can't think of a single movie in a snapper I'd buy.
For instance, the Matrix. There will probably be an updated SE at some point, and it most likely won't be in a snapper. |
It's all about the DVD, not the case.

Thanks for the suggestion Drexl. "What's a Drexl?"
Again, I have no real problems with the snappers. The reason I keep them stored separate from the others is because they're difficult to remove/replace on the shelfs. So, I've just put them in a drawer in my desk, and I've since run out of room. That, and of course...some flicks I can tell (like Shawshank) are just BEGGING for a rerelease minimally, let alone a Special Edition type thing.... Perhaps I'll take Drexl's advice, and sort of work my way through them...and convert them as I get new ones. So say a new flick comes out next week in snapper, I buy it, and as I do that, I take one out of the drawer, and convert it to snapcase. That might work, it might not. Who knows? |
