Leterboxed Looney Toons

Were any of the Looney Toons shorts in widescreen. The reason I ask is because there was a short where a Gremlin was attacking Buggs in a Airplane and there is one scene where the Gremlin is holding a Carot and bugs is yelling at him and then the Carot drops. All you ever see in this scene is the carot itself and not the gremlin and he seems to be just off the screen in the bottom right (Im doing this from memory of TV brodcasts I'm not sure if this one is included on the Gold DVD set or not). Now I don't think that this short was produced when WS was even an availble format since at the end the Gremlin says "Ran out of Gas" and bugs says "Yea, you know how it is with these A-Cards".

Another thing is sometimes on TV there will be a kind of all the way around letterboxing, right and left as well as top and bottom. It only seems to be during the title screens tho, what is that?

Windowboxing, which is how I'd prefer all these shorts to be. They use it for some silent films like Chaplin sometimes.

A-cards is a reference to gasoline rationing during World War II, which is when that particualr cartoon was made. So no, it wasn't made for widescreen.

The windowboxing was done back in the 1990s when some of the Warner Bros. cartoons underwent an initial round of restoration and video mastering. The windowboxing assures that the credits are not cut off due to the overscan that is present on most TV sets.
