No it doesn't. I always think back to Elaine Benes' thoughts on the movie in that Seinfeld episode. Her response to it being better the second time was great. "What, did they make it longer?"

Uh huh... I'm gonna take all of my film criticism from characters in sitcoms...
Could be worse, I suppose; I could take people on on-line forums seriously...

In my humble opinion, "The English Patient" had moments of greatness and incredibly beautiful imagery. However, the film's snail pace kept it from being a truly great epic in the vein of "Lawrence of Arabia" or "Doctor Zhivago." However, I would definitely buy a SE of this film. And Juliette Binoche's supporting performance was just wonderful. I was so glad she won the Supporting Actress Oscar over Laureen Bacall (who was okay in Barbra "Traitor" Streisand's "Mirror Has Two Faces"). I thought "Patient" winning 9 Oscars was a bit much, though. I wanted "Fargo" to win Best Picture that year.

we've been hearing "it's in the works" or "it's coming" for about 3 years now. I'll believe it when I see it available for preorder at a few online stores. I've held off on buying this title for way too long.....but I guess I'll hold off longer because I am not too interested in buying the current nonanamorphic dvd after already waiting this long.......

I prefer to think back on the days before your Pretty funny to look to Elaine for movie advice, anyway. I love that show, but they are all total idiots--that's part of why it's funny.

Anyway...I haven't purchased this movie yet but I've come close. If a new, better release came out, I'd definitely get it.

My favorite movie, ever. Saw the movie, read the book, have the soundtrack..... I can never watch this enough times. When I feel a bit moody, I always pop this one in.

That said, I held out for years before buying the current bare-bones non-anamorphic release (just because I was really dying to see it). I will be definitely buying a new SE if one comes out, and I don't care how much it will cost.

Um, I wasn't taking advice from a character on a TV show. I was saying I felt her opinion on the movie. I read the book, saw the movie, and found both to be painfully boring. To each their own, though.

I'd buy a SE release, but it's not something I'd watch too often either. It's just a damn depressing movie IMO.

The movie might be kind of boring, but Kristin Scott Thomas is quite a MILF.

You accuse TEP of having pacing problems and then cite Dr. Zhivago??

Ooooo-kay.

Lawrence of Arabia has NO pacing problems whatsoever. It's perfectly paced. Dr. Zhivago on the other hand is a little uneven.

For those that are still waiting for this, but need something in the meantime, can anyone CONFIRM that the canadian release is anamorphic. There have been whisperings in other threads but no one has substantiated the rumors.

I noticed artwork for this in the digitalbits upcoming artwork section. Anyone hear a rumored release date? I' like to see this for 3 reasons - 1. To see all Oscar winners (I have a feeling this one robbedFargo. 2. To make fun of it properly. 3. Kristin Scott Thomas.
