Lion King PROBLEMS???!?!?!?
I have a JVC721 and when I place Disc 1 in the player it starts up and then stops. I can't get even to the menu. The disc appears to play fine in my DVD-ROM.
Anyone else have a JVC721 or JVC723 and this disc?? I have only had trouble with one other disc and that was SW:TPM with the subtitle issue. Thanks for the response. Rod319 |
I thjink you might jsut have gotten a bad disk
|
I'm not having problems with the disc spinning up, but I am having problems with the "seamless" branching used for the inclusion of that unnecessary "Morning Report" scene.
I have other discs (and older releases, namely The Abyss) that use seamless branching and NONE of them pause between the transition from one scene to the next. However, with Lion King SE I'm getting a slight yet noticable pause on both the SE version (with the new animation) and the Theatrical version. Is anyone else experiencing this? ARGH! |
I noticed the slight pause at "Morning Report".
No other problems to report. |
It depends how the disc was authored whether there's a pause or not- check out New Line's "Poison Ivy", which has both the unrated and theatrical version. There's a ton of pauses when watching the theatrical version.
|
I have a JVC XV-523GD and I watched the Lion King: Special Edition and I have had no problems. "Morning Report" played seamlessly. The only problem I noticed was with the subtitles when Simba says, "I walk on the wild side" the subtitle reads, "I walk on the wide side." Other than that, no problems.

LK started up ok on my JVC system. I only watch about 15 minutes of the DVD, so I cannot "Report" on the Morning Report yet.
The dvd looks and sounds (make sure you turn on the Disney EX sound, or whatever it is called) great. |
I have a JVC XV-N50BK. Watched the Lion King & special features. Saw no problems at all!
|
I noticed a pause at around the 10 minute mark.

Please don't eat the cigarettes.

I have a JVC XV-FA90BK and noticed the pause after "Morning Report" as well.
Also, since the Beauty and the Beast PE had the Roman Numeral "I" designated on the spine, I had assumed all the forthcoming PEs would continue this. The Lion King spine doesn't have "II" on it, but seems to have been intended to have it. Unless they used orange again for the color and I just can't see it... It's the same on both the case spine and the slipcover. Anyone actually get the series number? |

|
I have a Panasonic DVD-CV52.
No problem with playback. I watched the Special Edition with Disney Enhanced Home Theater mix. I didn't notice any pause at the point of the new scene. |
oh yeah.... just wanted to mention that it says 'DVD cannot be played' on the screen... anyone else w/ a Pioneer 5-disc player have this problem??
|
Just finished watching it on my PS2 (yes yes, sucky dvd player :p I'm to cheap to buy a stand alone at the moment.) I didn't notice any pauses or anything else out of the ordinary.

|
I have a Toshiba SD4800 and have teh same pause problem at the end of the morning report. if I play it on my PC there are no proeblems
|
Over at the HTF they're saying the pause that everyone is seeing after Morning Report is a layer change. An unusual place for one, so that's probably what is throwing everyone off.
|
Do you happen to have a link to that HTF thread? Much thanks!

My Sony Dvd player can show the layer changes and this is where it is at. It is the earliest in a movie I have ever seen one but that is it. |
I have a question, how do I play the theatrical version? When I hit play, it doesn't give me a choice..it just plays SE.
|
Rod! Yes! It's not just you... I've been through two discs now on my JVC 723 and am still plagued with problems (on my THIRD copy!). Finally got the movie to play (the player skipped the whole opening menu), but just after chapter 3 (morning report) the image began breaking up until the player froze & ejected the disc! I later managed to bring up the menu, and scene select past chapter 4, also to no avail, every chapter has image break-up & freezes the player.
I'm going to try contacting Buena Vista to see if they have any fix in store. I was going to replace my player after the New Year (when I replace my projector) with the Bravo D1, but I'd hate to have to wait until then to play it. My kids are killing me!!! |

Hey Mark, Let me know what BV says.
I am finally being pushed into the using my HTPC as my primary DVD player since it will play the disc. |
Yeah, the crap like the music video, games, commercials, etc. must take up most of the first layer.
|
Hrm, I have a panasonic (it was like 100 bux) and i have no issues at all.
|
I had no problems with the intial menu and movie. However, when I finished watching the movie I was not able to watch 2 of the extras because the audio was out of sync and/or choppy. I looked at the back of the dvd case and there is a warning that the material may not play on all dvd players. This is a first for me! Norcent d300 dvd player by the way.
|
With the layer change/"seamless" branch or whatever it is, does anyone else notice that one of Mufasa's lines is inaudible? It comes right after the "Morning Report" song. Do I have a defective DVD or is this just a particularly noticeable/bad transition?
