The Disney Treasures breakdown?

I picked up the Disneyland USA set last week - just 24 hours before I had a week in the Magic Kingdom, which was kind of cool to see the history of the park as I was getting set to tour it.

I'd never really paid attention to these releases up till now, but I *LOVE* the old World of Disney shows. A real old school flashback, they are.

So, does anyone have a list of what the previous wave was (the before Disneyland USA wave) and what's upcoming? Are there any more World of Disney episodes coming down the pipe?

Here's a link to a site that lists all the Treasures titles so far, along with the announced titles for release this December:

Disneyland USA has some censorship

Mickey Mouse in Black and White

Wave 3 (2003):

i wonder if there is going to be any Treasure DVDs about Disney World...? then again.. Walt died long before DW so there aren't really any vintage shows about DW.. would still be cool to have a "History of Disney World" DVD though with documentaries on how all the parks came about.

Rogue588 10-06-03 12:49 PM

I'm really hoping so.

There was a good program on the Travel Channel about Disney. They showed some footage of Walt talking about EPCOT...I'm amazed how forward thinking Walt was...

Based on discussions regarding past Treasures, I think you and I would be the only two interested in a "History Of Disney World"...:(

Hell, i'm still hoping the forthcoming Pirates Of the Caribbean DVD will have a featurette on the history of the ride..

Rogue,

check out this website linked below, and when you get there click on "EPCOT film" in the left menu. if you have a good connection you can watch a 24-minute presentation made by Walt himself about EPCOT. it's totally fascinating to hear all his wild ideas about it.

I think the Epcot film is going to be on the Tomorrow Land Disney Treasure set.

Class 316, care to expand?

PatrickMcCart 10-07-03 01:33 PM

Disneyland USA has some footage excised due to rights problems and has "Don't Try This At Home!" superimposed a fire-eating scene.

Some shots of the Mouseketeers were deleted and a shot of the Tiki Room.

Not censored, but rather edited for rights problems.

According to the specs at Amazon.Com, it will have a program
from The Wonderful World of Disney featuring the ride.

Is Disneyland, USA the set that has a segment of the Wonderful World of Disney where Walt does a walkthrough of the ride while it was being built? It might have been a smaller scale mock-up of the ride, I can't remember.

Experiment626 10-15-03 07:14 AM

Are these things expensive? I saw one sell for almost $100 on ebay. What gives?

Class316 10-15-03 09:10 AM

Not all the stuff that’s been cut out is die to “rights issues”. Some is explicitly censorship. Either way, sucks!

Here’s a list of Disney Treasures that have censorship (at least to SOME degree):

Disneyland USA
Mickey Mouse in Living Color
Silly Symphonies

Mickey Mouse In Black And White is not censored but there were some "bad" shorts that were excluded.

Let’s all pray the upcoming Disney Treasures are more like the last wave and not the ones before that!

There’s lots of other severe censorship in Disney but they’re not the Treasures tins.

Class316 10-15-03 09:54 AM

Another thing, why exactly did they have rights problems with this one?

jmj713 10-15-03 10:21 AM

Actually it's more of a port of the laserdisc collection of B&W shorts with a bonus short thrown in, and of course everything completely uncut. Nothing was excluded, since a second volume of B&W shorts is rumored to be upcoming in either the next wave or the wave after that.

The Disneyland USA DVD has a WWOC program "Disneyland's 10th Anniversary" that has Walt walking through the Imagineer's studio where there is a model mockup of a couple of scenes from PoTC. It's a short segment after which Walt shows other attractions that are on the drawing board.

If my memory serves me correctly, there was another program that aired closer to the time PoTC opened, which was devoted almost exclusively to the attraction. I'm assuming this may be the program that will be on the DVD.

From what I heard about 3 shorts were excluded and they included Uncle Tom and some other stuff.

Were there that many more B&W Mickey Mouse shorts made that it would warrant a B&W II?
