For Some reason Paramount is relasing Caine's Italian Job as 1.85 and not 2.35!!!

I have found out that Paramount is releasing the original Italian Job in 1.85 aspect ratio rather than the original 2.35 aspect ratio.

This is the Region 1 version I am talking about which due for release on 07/10/03

Can anyone shed any light on this and why on earth this classic film has been re framed?

What is Paramount thinking!!!!!!!!!!

...they're thinking: if people are gonna whine about it, they should do it in the appropriate forum.

Could just be a typo in the press release. Wouldn't be the first time that happened. Let's reserve judgement until the disc actually comes out.

Jonam, how did you find out about this?

Anyone know if Paramount has a history of doing this with classic titles? I'll be severely disappointed if this is true and definitely will not purchase it.

If only our friendly neighborhood Paramount rep could chime in and help clarify the matter.

The way I found out was on numerous dvd sites that specified the aspect ratios but mainly check here on Rewind which gives you a comparison between region 1 and 2.

It does not appear from that information, that the disk has actually been reviewed or seen. It looks like the info. came from another source and not from having actually played the DVD.

Well, indy, you're right, but Rewind are fairly quick to check their mistakes too.

Martin Blythe from Paramount confirmed that the Region 1 will definitely be 2.35:1.

"To answer your question though - both the int'l and domestic versions were off a new transfer so it will be 16:9 and 2.35:1."

I live in the UK but I am probably the only one that prefers NTSC over PAL so I have been waiting ages for this film to be released in the States but I really hope it is 2.35:1 as Martin Blythe apparently has confirmed.

Fingers crossed!?!?
