I noticed they just released a Simpsons Treehouse of Horror that contains episodes 5 to 8

Nope, at least not that I know of.

BTW, the current one doesn't have 5 through 8; it has 5, 6, 7 and 12.

Maybe they'll release one with 8 through 11.

I bought it, since it had my favorite one on there.

But I wish they would have released a 2-3 disc set of all the Treehouse of Horror shows. *sigh*

Wow, I wonder if Treehouse of Horror: Volume 2 will take as long as the current Simpsons season sets to be released? And why couldn't they have at least included episodes 3 & 4, because the earlier ones are the best, IMHO.

Why even release them at all? These are going to end up on the Season Sets of whichever season they originally aired with, so eventually, it's a double dip.

Unfortunately, I've had the Treehouse of Horror dvd R2 for a while, and I think it's rather silly to have duplicate episodes since I plan on having all the season sets, but my wife's a Simpsons fanatic, so whatever makes her happy.

At the current rate of release, the Sun will have burned out by the time Season 13 (which would include Treehouse of Horror 12, would it not?) makes it to DVD.

Well, if Fox follow the same pattern when they receive first 3 season sets, you can expect season 4 to be out around fall of 2004. From the Amazon web site, season 1 was released on 9/25/2001, season 2 on 8/6/2002, and season 3 on 8/26/2003.

A year is a long wait considering they have already recorded commentary for at least through season 5. Fox is just biding their time and releasing them very slowly, perhaps they have adopted the Lucas strategy of waiting until a fanbase has withered and died before releasing something for fear of them actually BUYING it.

Well, then they must have ramped up the speed on making the commentaries, since they were still recording Season 3's commentaries as recently as November 2002. Just listen to Homer At The Bat's commentary, they talk about the Angels winning the World Series.

Matt Greoning has come out and said it's the commentaries that hold up the sets, and that FOX wants the sets out faster.

Al Jean also said that it was the commentaries that were the problem. He said FOX would love to get the sets out sooner, but Groening and company don't want production of the DVDs to take precendence over the new episodes.

I say get seasons 4-6 released as fast as possible then they can spend all the time they want on the new episodes, which I personally think are comparitively pretty poor.

The Halloween themed DVD is perfect for popping in around Halloween without having to break out 4 different season sets (that don't exist yet). I think it's a great idea.
