How do you feel when you finally own a complete series?

I bought Hanibal today which finally completed my trilogy. I am always amazed how my collection feels more like a library than a collection. Is there a difference between a collection and a library? I think so. What do you think?

Maybe a better question is when does a collection become a library?

when you say it is a library.. hell...I dont know. I guess I switched from a collection to a library around the 800 title mark. yes....let that be the standard. now just about 5 or 600 more to go and I'll be close to a complete library!!

and yes...I feel pretty damn good when a series is completed. but then it just starts all over again with something else.

even though family guy was only two releases, when i had vol. 2 in my hands and i walked out the door of that Circuit City, there was a tear in my eye. I thought to myself,"I may be the happiest boy alive". Then, i watched all 21 episodes over the next 2 days.

If I haven't watched any of the collection, I feel excited because I get to watch it. However, once I finish the collection, I usually feel sad that there are no more left (I'm speaking TV episodes).

For example, I'm sure once I watch the second volume of Family guy I will be wishing for more, but there are none!

Of the complete series i own.. they have been bought all in the one package so TBH haven't had any kind of emotional impact.
I'm sure once i have all the X-Files Season sets and Twin Peaks i'll have a much greater feeling of accomplishment prompting outbursts of joy coupled with a few expletives

I'll let you know once Buffy Season 7 is released. Every other series I'm collecting is still on the air, so it could be a while before I've completed anything else.

That's exactly what I thought: Buffy. When I have all seven of those bad boys on my shelf, I'll be happy. Of course, my girlfriend technically owns season 1 (she insisted), but we live together so...

I'll also be pleased to have all three extended editions of the Lord of the Rings trilogy proudly displayed. Library indeed.

One of these days, I'll get around to printing a custom cover for Troops, the Star Wars parody. Add the eventual Episode III DVD to my collection (Episodes I and II and the three boots of the original trilogy) and I'll be satisfied until Luca$ releases the official versions--probably in a massive box to milk us for all we have.

I'm a completist so I don't like unfinished sets.

However, I will never own Speed 2 or anything after Police Academy 1

I say after the 500 mark you got the begining stages of a library.
I've been calling my collection a library for some time. Had 950, but downsized to around 650 when I moved. I'm getting ready to weed a few more out this weekend....

I want to get rid of all the crap my x wife been adding in...

You never know when a movie will get a sequel so I never feel the movie portion of my collection is complete. It's always in limbo depending on the greed of movie executives.

The TV show portion of my collection is another story. Getting to complete Family Guy was great as was getting all the Monty Python shows.

It'll be some time before I finish getting, South Park, The Simpsons, Friends, Futurama, Angel, Cheers, Frasier, Buffy, X-Files and King Of The Hill. And then add on all the shows that haven't started to come out yet. Completing a set feels great but other than another year for The X-Files who knows when I'll get to complete another series.

It can be tough for Tv shows... you have to wait forever for some of them to finish. Red Dwarf for starters... I want to complete my collection now but that will take another 3 years or something.

I will never own Speed 2 either (actually the girlfriend insisted that she purchase the newest special edition of first one because it was one of her only VHS movies). In addition, I will probably never purchase Batman Forever or Batman & Robin. Ick. If Lethal Weapon 4 hadn't been a free promo DVD when I bought my player, I probably wouldn't own that either.
