Confessions of a Dangerous Mind custom

Work in progress, but the major stuff is done, so you've got a good idea what the final product will look like... I spent the better part of two days working on the back, so naturally I'm rather proud of that part. :)

I haven't been able to find an appropriately high-res image of the original poster, though, so the image I'm using right now is just temporary (the flaws are hugely visible on the full size file). I may borrow the book from work and scan the cover to use. It's slightly different than the poster, but I can likely merge the two.

Wow. I think it looks great. I just need to get a printer and some paper to finally replace my covers and snappers. DAMN THIS BEING BROKE!

Alright, here's the final (unless anyone has additional suggestions) cover!

And since I feel like doing more than just posting an image, here's some background on how I put the cover together: :)

The entire thing was inspired by the movie's website design, which I had initially visited in the hopes of finding some high-res images. The "top secret" folder and the photos were taken directly from the site; I scanned in a crumpled piece of paper for the note, and found a high res image of a silenced pistol on Google (quite a few effects and filters were used to get it looking the way it does). The passport image didn't need to be the greatest quality since it's barely visible, but after pasting the logos onto it, I applied a cloth texture so they'd look like part of the booklet.

The front cover was going to simply be the original poster art, but I wasn't able to get a good enough image. So I decided to stick with the folder theme while still keeping the style of the poster. This particular manila folder is one I keep in my desk, along with some random papers pulled out of the trash. I then cut the picture of Chuck from the other image, manually worked out his shoulder and head area since it's just black on the original, and did some filtering/blending to give it a more "ink stamp" look. I always liked the woman's silhouette on the gun, so that went onto the spine. Finally, add some neat lighting and it's done!

Hopefully I can find someplace to upload the full image soon so that interested parties can get a copy. :)

Why did you choose to half obscure the UPC? I think it would look better if you just eliminated it altogether. Other than that small nitpick, I think it is marvelous. Very nice work!

I kinda like the half obscured upc. Since it's a custom, it doesn't even have to be there. But I hate those ugly things so much, I'm glad to see one getting dissed!

Excellent job on the whole design and concept. I just watched the movie last night!

hey CB...

would THIS work..?

I like having the UPCs on my customs; it just makes them look more complete. And on this one, the idea was to have the folder acting as the back of the case, and the other items "sitting" on top of it. The photos partially cover the UPC and you can see the pistol is slightly obscuring the audio and video specs.

Speaking of completeness, I also wanted to have a full studio/credits listing at the bottom, but there was no where to put it.

Can't say I like the "special edition" banner. Doesn't suit the cover, in my opinion.

hey CB...not that I wanna rush you or anything, but didja check out the cover that I hosted..?

if so, i'm gonna take it down...i need the space...lmk..

Yeah, I saved it, Rogue. Not sure if I'll end up doing anything with it now, but it's good to have handy in case. Thanks!
