BTW, Criterion tried to make this dream come true for their very first laserdisc release (and the first ever commentary track) in 1984. Although people including Roger Ebert tried to convince Welles, he refused, as he thought people focused too much on that film and ignored others he had done.

Nice! I might throw in a few more cast members or maybe on a sperate track. Here's my choices:

South Park: BL&U - Drunken Commentary(Matt Stone & Trey Parker)
South Park Season 2 - Commentary on episodes by above.
Office Space - Mike Judge, Stephen Root, & Ron Livingston
Almost any Jim Carrey Movie - Jim Carrey
Big Lebowski - Bridges, Goodman, Buciemi, and Coen Brothers.

FatTony 09-08-03 06:12 PM

South Park - Season 2 and BLU (Stone & Parker, maybe a character commentary as well)
Office Space (Judge, maybe a couple of actors)
Big Lebowski (Coen Bros, Bridges)
Any other Coen Bros film (Coen Bros...doing a serious commentary)
Any Kubrick film (Kubrick, but given that's not possible, I'd love to hear from some film scholars/critics)
Any Hitchcock film (see above, but replace Kubrick with Hitchcock)
Any Spielberg film (Spielberg)

But really, I'd like Ebert to quit his job as a reviewer and become a full-time DVD commentator, as his commentaries on Citizen Kane and Casablanca are two of the best I've ever heard (I have yet to listen to the Dark City track).

For me, I'd think it'd be a hoot and a half to hear a Spike Lee commentary on Birth of a Nation.

I only have one dream commentary, because I only really listen to Simpson commentaries. I'm hoping that Conan O'Brien does commentary for the Season 4 episodes he produced.

Kinyo 09-09-03 06:24 PM

Any Spielberg film- Speilberg He has been my favorite director for as long as i can remember. I'd listen to anything he has to say about his movies.

evenswr 09-09-03 06:31 PM

The Adventures of Baron Munchausen - Terry Gilliam
The Fisher King - Terry Gilliam

After the recent releases of Criterion's Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas (w/ Gilliam commentary), Monty Python's Meaning of Life (w/Gilliam commentary), and Lost in La Mancha (the whole 2-disc set, including the film, is practically one big Gilliam commentary), I'd love to hear commentaries for the last two remaining commentariless Gilliam films on my shelf.

I know, I know, buy the laserdiscs....

I've said this before in other threads/boards, and I'll say it again:

MST3K with Mike Nelson, Joe Hodgson, Kevin Murphy (Servo), etc.

Since the show itself is kind of a commentary in itself, basically they would be commenting on commentary on horrible films.

I'll second this, with one correction: It's Joel Hodgson, not Joe.
