What did Peter Jackson say about future LOTR releases?

I know there's a quote floating around somewhere from Jackson about the LOTR trilogy on DVD. Correct me if I'm wrong, but hasn't he said that there will be no new material included in a possible boxset beyond what can be found in the basic and extended editions? I just want to be sure before I pop for both editions of each film. Thanks.

I don't have a link but yes he definitely has said that the Extended Editions will contain everything he intended to have in the films.

He's been working on these films non-stop for so long. Plus he still has both DVD releases for RotK. I'm sure he's ready for a LOTR break. Plus he has King Kong to worry about.

Correct me if I am wrong, but did he not state somewhere that he wanted to go back and re-do some effect shots? (And, no, this is not a Lucas joke.)

I'm pretty sure that he and New Line have said the EE versions are it. No re-releases.

I thought he had mentioned that also about the FX, but I've heard quotes more recently that the Extended Editions were going to be it.

If they have a lot leftover, I wouldn't mind seeing some "extras" only releases in a "Book of Lost Tales" or "Unfinished Tales" kind of vein.

I remember him saying he wanted to go back to Fellowship and redo Gollum as he appeared in Two Towers.

I hope he leaves The Fellowship version of Gollum alone. I think it's perfect how it is now. I really don't want to buy that movie for a third time. Leave it alone!!!

There's really no point in redoing Gollum unless he plans to add more scenes of him into the movie. The few shots of Gollum there are in FotR are covered in shadow and from a distance so improving the CGI wouldn't really be noticed IMO.

I don't think it's about improving the CGI. On the Fellowship commentary he mentions that Gollum doesn't look like the Gollum in Two Towers. He states that he would like to go back and modify or redo those shots to make the character design consistent.

He also wants to have the Orcs carry walkie-talkies instead of swords.

I was actually slightly disappointed when I first saw Gollum. He looked a lot creepier in FotR -- of course after about 60 seconds I didn't care because it was so well done.

Hmm... sounds like no one knows for sure. I thought Jackson specifically made a statement to fans ensuring their investment in the extended editions.

From listening to the commentary track I believe that when he said that he'd like to go back and redo Gollum he was just joking around. He and New Line have both stated that the Extended Editions are the final versions of the films that will be released on dvd and I don't see either of them going back on their word.

I doubt there would be any going back. if anything, I would expect a new method once all three is out. a sort of huge box set for all three EE editions in one packaged with the same art and so forth.. just in a different wrapping and price.

Ha ha. You're so funny.

And so wrong.

He wants a Wampa, not tauntaun.

Peter Jackson originally wanted more special effects applied to the movie especially to Legolas. For example, have him fly and shoot lasers from his bow. Perhaps in a very distant future Jackson and Newline will get together and work some sort of agreement to get this revision done and rush the finished product out to the public... who knows?

Perhaps the swords will be replaced with walkie talkies and they will say Dual Columns instead of Two Towers.
