They left for a 3 hr. tour (3 hr. tour), ended up with a season 1 set.

From TVShowsOnDVD.com:

Season 1 ships out in 2004
9/04/2003

Join the gang of Gilligan's Island for a 36 episode tour courtesy of Warner Bros Home Video. Warner Bros will release the first season of the classic show in 2004. While we don't know when the set will set sail, we're positive this will be a hot set. 40 years after it first aired, the exploits of Gilligan, the Skipper, the millionaire and his wife, the movie star, the Professor and Mary Ann have made us laugh and it's such wonderful news to hear that the show will be available on DVD.

Rypro 525 09-04-03 08:59 PM

since i'm not a gilligan's island fan, could you explain the thread title?

movie diva 09-04-03 09:03 PM

that is part of the theme song and the entire plot of the series.

RyoHazuki 09-04-03 09:05 PM

Clever, but not as clever as the watermarked bullwinkle thread title.

Scott27 09-04-03 09:05 PM

It's a take off of the theme song.

Lyrics

BTW, I'm not a fan of the show either (never seen an episode) but it's one of the more popular TV themes so I thought the lyrics were sort of common knowledge. I apologize if some people don't understand the subject line (just trying to be creative).

No problem, Scott. In fact, I got a little chuckle from it when I saw it. Just goes to show that there is nothing that is 100% universal, I guess.

Scott, I loved your thread title; it was quite clever.

However I love this news even more. Gilligan has been near the top of my TV on DVD wish list for some time.

Unless Warners screws this up somehow, I'm definitely picking this up.

Hopefully the classic TV floodgates will open now that we have this, Green Acres, Mr. Ed, Dick Van Dyke et al all coming soon.

You have to forgive Rypro, he's a wee lad still in high school. Gilligan's Island is before his time.

So did Gilligan and the crew EVER get rescued?

By the way, Mary Ann over Ginger. :D

Skipperrrrrrrrrrrrrr!!

For as many times as I've watched Gilligan's Island (old enough to remember seeing the first season when it was originally broadcast), I will probably still get this set. I think there was a pilot shot with some alternate cast members... that would be a cool extra!

Great news little buddy! I'm gonna be counting how many times the Skipper smacks Gilligan with his cap. :)

isn't that a drinking game?

JuryDuty 09-05-03 12:26 AM

Wow--fantastic. Sweet!

The entire series only ran 3 seasons, so this would be an easy one to collect. I hope it includes the unaired pilot that's on the Columbia House video series.

I don't know, if it is set me up with something in a hollowed out coconut!

Eplicon 09-05-03 02:40 AM

I hope the first season isn't the colorized version.

Rypro 525,

I guess you won't understand this thread title either:

Hopefully, this means that the rights issues have been resolved. This could mean that Sherwood Schwartz will finally get to make the Gilligan's Island movie (in the vein of The Brady Bunch movies, which he also did).

Are the Columbia House videos in B&W or colorized? I remember buying a few VHS tapes about 5 years ago & they were colorized. Maybe someone should e-mail tvshowsondvd & see if they could get the info from WB (there good at getting info)

They were rescued several times... mostly for the 1hr specials. They always seemed to get stranded back on the island every time, though! If I were Mr. Howe I'd have bought a few more airplanes and just flew everywhere instead of setting foot on another boat. ;)

I've been waiting for this for a long time - good to see it's coming.

*blink* *blink*

Never seen an episode?!? That's like saying that you've not seen Star Wars or never eaten a Big Mac. How could you live in the 21st century and not have seen Gilligan's Island? What are you from the outback wilderness of Bornio or something?

But then, I guess you did at least know the theme - unlike SOME users. . . .

Letsee - requirements for this set:

* The unaired pilot with the mostly reworked theme song
* Russell Johnson, Dawn Wells, Bob Denver and Sherwood Swartz for some audio commentary.
* The original network bumpers and promos
* Black and White, as appropreate of course.

But hell, even as a bare bones set, I'm still there. This thing is gonna rock!
