I am not a huge anime fan but thought that this looked great:

The description states that these films are live-action, not anime.

I think pro-bassoonist may just have been referring to the fact that Mamoru Oshii is known more for his anime than he is his live action films although Avalon may have helped redress that situation.
I may pick this up myself as i had been meaning to pick up the Japanese R2 up until this point.

Avalon is pretty cool, I might get this especially if I can find it cheaper than 60.

Since we're on the subject, has there been any word on a US release of Avalon either on DVD or theatrically? I heard Neil Gaiman was working on writing subtitles but that was about two years ago...

There's a region free HK version put out by I believe Bandai, as well as numerous other foreign releases. www.hkflix.com has it

For those who don't know, the two live action films are set in the Jon Roh universe (they were made before Jon Roh.) They were very very low budget, IIRC.
