The best is Alien with Jaws running a close second.
The worst that I own is Adventures in Babysitting - especially the opening credits sequence. The worst overall was the Criterion release of Rebecca. I was very disappointed when I rented that one.
Dishonourable mention is The Shadow. It was only released in Pan & Scan for North America. The image quality is fine it's just not the whole image.

i am not sure why many people consider FOTR EE to have the "best" picture quality. i find it to be very soft and blurry compared to some recent releases like Terminator 3 or X-men 2, or all the Superbits that i have. that said, i think one of the best transfers is The Rock: Criterion Collection.

the all time worst is dawsons creek season 2. they fit 6-7 45 min episodes per disc. most of the shots were blurry, and really compressed. It looks ten times better on the tbs syndication reruns (and they have all the music cues also, the cheap bastards at columbia omited about 1/4th of all of the music cues). so avoid this box set if at all possible and just stick to the tbs syndications.

I was very impressed by Seabiscuit last night on my Infocus X1. It's as good as anything I've seen on it.
Very disappointed with Gone With the Wind. Unwatchable at 80". There are lots of good 4:3 transfers out there too. I hope this one gets re-done at some point.
