Anyone love Isolated Scores as much as I do?

I'm listening to The Matrix isolated score with Don Davis commentary. . .and I'm absolutely loving it. I'm gonna pick up LOTR: EE and Night and Fog off my shelf and listen to those sometime.

Am I alone in enjoyment of this special feature? It doesn't seem to be a very popular thing.
I just think a movie like Minority Report would have been had an excellent DVD (as it is, it's just good in my opinion) if it had some sort of isolated score.

Also, can someone recommend me DVDs with isolated scores?

Superman had one, as do a great many of the Doctor Who discs.

I'm not near the collection...but I think there is the Danny Elfman commentary/music on Edward Scissorhands which is supposed to be good. still have not checked it out much myself.

What I like is listening to the isolated score, hearing the commentary, and then REALLY noticing the score the next time you see the movie.

I buy the odd CD score for that very reason..pop it in the car CD and listen to it over a few days and then go back again and watch the movie and I find it really enhances the experience a lot of the time where the music is concerned.

Ones I can think of from my collection off the top of my head (still at work...can't check!) in addition to the ones already mentioned:

Starship Troopers
Pleasantville
The Cell
Stand by Me
The Dark Crystal
Legends of the Fall
Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves
E.T.
A Bug's Life

And I completely agree...I think this is a GREAT feature!

Stand By Me must be a great choice for isolated score. I might have to pick it up

Actually, I was a little surprised by how little there actually is! It was my favorite movie in high school and (yes, it's true) I used to listen to the soundtrack all the time, but in the movie the original cues are so short and the classic songs are played so briefly that it is a very, very silent experience!

That said, it is a fantastic movie, a pretty good disc (listening to Rob Reiner start to choke up talking about River Phoenix's death was really sad), and worth picking up REGARDLESS of the music track!

BTW, great quote...I recognize that movie...!

Really enjoy Elfman's commentaries and music. PEE WEE'S BIG ADVENTURE is another I like.

THE NINTH GATE is another I enjoyed listening to. No comments from the composer on that one.

I really hope the Star Trek VI CE has an isolated score, Cliff Eidelman's Overture in that was brilliant.

LOTR:EE doesn't have an isolated score, although I wish it did. I don't think the extended soundtrack CDs are coming out until next year.

wow! If they were to do a LOTR EE soundtrack, they would need like 3 cd's. I wish that they would do it as a dvd audio disc and then they could include all of the music, and it would sound better!

I remember they were going to include this, but about a month before the release, they decided not to to have room for the other 4 commentaries, DTS, and DD tracks, and were able to keep the best picture qualty. I am glad they cut it personally as I dont feel they are needed. I love commentaries thoguh

This was posted to USEnet last year [around the Oscars]. I think it was three discs and there were some special effects every now and then. They also posted the isolated score for Ocean's Eleven [LOVE IT].

It's a shame they either DON'T do this on a DVD or don't release it on CD. I realize it might be a niche, but i'm sure it would do moderate sales..

Well, we all know how the RIAA/MPAA thinks..

My two favorite isolated scores are
Ghost Dog: Way of the Samurai (RZA score)
Mr. Show: Season 3 Druggachussetes score by Eban Schletter

I find isolated scores next to deleted scenes to be my favorite extras.

I like isolated scores, but I'm not so fond of the composer commenting. Last thing I want is to get swept up in a beautiful flourish of music, followed by "yeah, I was really hungover when I wrote that..."

lol, yeah i don't really care for composer commentary over the isolated score either. it would be great if there were isolated scores AND a separate composer commentary track.

there needs to be more of them.

Did they ever post one for FOTR:EE or TTT?

My favorite isolated score track is on L.A. Confidential. I just love Jerry Goldsmith's music for this movie. I just with there was an isolated track on the LOTR films.

I couldn't have said it better myself.

I still get disappointed every time I look at the back cover of The Time Machine.
