- snapper cases
- tv shows that are $6+/episode (this means you chris carter!)
- unskipable previews
- pan-scan... i dont care if a ws version is available, there is NO reason to allow pan-suck to exist in this day/age.
- inserts that have NO relevant info or even decent art on them.
- FBI warnings
- DTS audio selection hidden in a menu called "languages" or something.
- menu "pointers" that are hard to see or tell if they are even on the selection you want.
- dvd packaging that doesnt differentiate well between "extra footage" that is still sep from the film vs "extra footage" that has been incorporated back into the film.
- dvds that, for whatever reason, dont run on a PC dvd drive
- use of terms like "special edition", "director's edition" etc etc as more of a way to sucker people into buying another copy of a film rather than as a truly descriptive term.
- quadruple dipping (any1 else afraid to get Stargate UE?)
- "extras" menus which, in their entirety, include the theatrical trailer and a few production notes.
- anything that gives me the stupid "disc does not allow that function at this time" message from my dvd player when i hit a button on my remote.
- poopy layer transtions (gods ad generals...uhg)
- crap video transfers that have no legit excuse for being crap (ie the film isnt even old and the transfer is still poop)
- the keep cases that have the 4 recesses that are supposed to be used to grab a disc edge, but cant be cause they have an annoying plastic ridge in the way.
- discs that have too few OR too many chapters to select
- dvd cover art that just plain sucks (LD may have spoiled me)
- discs that dont have DD5.1 sound (or dts if they have it) as the default.
- discs that waste bandwidth that could be used to better the presentation, super-bit style.
- director commentary tracks where they break their own arm slapping themselves on the back.

Not getting a good quality anamorphic transfer of the theatrical cut.
Not getting the original soundtrack.
Not getting the theatrical trailer.
Pan and Scan on the flip side, or on the second disc.
Can't switch subtitles on and off on the fly.
Can't switch audio tracks on the fly.
"First look" extras.
Web content.

Packaging that doesn't take into account preserving the condition of the DVD such as providing discs in paper sleeves etc and not on hubs which only encourage the addition of scratches/surface marks when removing them.
Buying brand new sealed DVD's only to find the playing surface covered in scratches, scuff marks,fingerprints...an all too common occurence i'm finding!!!

The whole Universal intro thing, so lame. I just want to watch my movie!
Menus with long scenes inbetween menus, takes too much time. Just like nice-looking menus with quick navigating.

Inserts. I can't stand those stupid cards and booklets inside my dvd cases! I take them out and toss them as soon as I open each new disc. I just want to watch what's on the dvd--that's what I bought it for!--and don't want that paper trash cluttering up my cases. (Often I snap off those stupid clips inside the front cover too--no need for them!)

dvds without rude/nude deleted scenes on them (you can't tell me there aren't some raunchy Lion King deleted scenes somewhere!)
i think they cut it for both versions of the movie (the sfx that sort of looks like sex in the clouds), but I'm not bitter, but someon4e will be.

Pan and scan-only DVD's are more than a pet peeve.
I don't like Snapper cases either. I want to come in snapper; I don't want my movies to.

I've not seen my biggest pet peeve yet. Those stupid Enhanced Viewing Mode features (aka Follow the White Rabbit). Why do I have to watch the movie if I'm wanting to view some bonus material? Singin' In The Rain is the WORST. As I recall there were only three times the little icon popped up. I could have watched that material in 10-15 minutes tops. Why scatter it throughout the movie? And I can't enjoy the movie because I'm waiting for the stupid icon to pop up!
Other than that, I'd say disabled buttons on the remote. I couldn't really care less about inserts, floating heads, FBI warnings, etc.

This one has been eluded to, but more specifically, I can't stand it when the chapter stops on TV shows aren't after the opening credits (Deep Space Nine).
The mind boggling thing is that about 25% of the DS9 shows DO have the chapter stop after the opening credits, but the rest don't. Hello?
The other biggie is the opening warnings / disclaimers on DVD's that you can't skip. My player won't let me eject the disc until it's to the main menu, so if I put in the wrong DVD, I have to wait to get it out.

Not many pet peeves, but the ones I do have:
Menus where you can't tell what you selected
Forced previews
Long awaited release comes out, but it's not in OAR
Disks that are nearly impossible to get off the hub.

10. Barebones releases.
9. TV shows that wait a long time between season releases
8. Pan and scan (although okay with me if widescreen is available--if other people want to watch only part of the movie, I don't particularly care.)
7. Snapper cases.
6. Security stickers on plastic snapper cases.
5. Cases that are difficult to safely get the disc out without breaking either the case or the disc.
4. Menus that are difficult to navigate (can't tell what's been highlighted, etc.)
3. Forced previews
2. Slow (lots of animation) menus that are boring after the first time
1. No English subtitles or captions

* Non-OAR, particularly when a 2.35:1 movie is cropped to 2.00:1 or 2.10:1 (e.g. Life As A House, Playing By Heart) - it's so close, but yet not as it should be! Argh!
* When burnt-in captions have been removed from the print and are replaced with captions from the subtitle stream. It just looks hideous and ruins the 'feel' of the movie.
* Unflagged EX and ES soundtracks.
* Crap films that have fantastic soundtracks. On the one hand, they're nice to keep as demo material; but on the other hand, I'll never watch them again so why keep them? Such a hard decision to make

-No option to choose OAR or full-screen. Wasn't this one of the format's proponents' great promises early on?
-Minor complaint: Unnecessarily large cases, given that most DVDs have no inserts.
