Rosencrantz & Guildenstern Are Dead on DVD?
Has anyone heard anything on a probable release of the Gary Oldman/Tim Roth film Rosencrantz and Guildenstern Are Dead? Buena Vista, I believe, has the rights. They have put out a ton of other DVD crap that nobody bought, Krippendorf's Tribe anyone?, out before this movie. R&GAD has a cult following to be sure, so what's the hold up?

This would be one that I know tons of people will snatch up if / when it is ever released ... great movie. It has been discussed a bit before. I don't really have any news on it, but boy would I love to have it on DVD.

I got an R0 copy (legit) from one of the international retailers that DVD Talk has links to, but I forget which one... I'm on vacation right now, but when I get home, I'll check if I saved the receipt. You could also try Amazon's UK site for this disc... it's got a different cover than the one I have, so I have no idea what sort of quality you'll get with it.

There are also several releases from other regions. The Korean one seems to be the one to stay away from, as I believe it is full frame. They do have a region 2 PAL disc in the UK, and a non-PAL in Japan.

I have the Korean one and it is in fullscreen (got it from HKflix.com IIRC)... it was better than my copy off of Bravo though so I was happy w/ it I'll have to look into this Amazon.uk one though

I assume the R2 of this is PAL... and while I can play that.. many can't and I prefer not to buy DVDs from other regions if possible so that I can loan it to family and let them enjoy some of the films that I love... anyway... good news that it exists in a decent version somewhere... hopefully, we can presume it to be an indication that sooner or later we will have it here, also.
Now, if the R0 is NTSC or if anyone knows of a good NTSC copy (anamorphic wide... good transfer, etc.), then please let me know.

The UK R0 (OAR) is PAL
The Korean R0 (fullscreen) is NTSC
The bad news is the laser disc from BV was fullscreen as well so if they do actually release a DVD I suspect they'll do the same. The ideal situation would be for Criterion to pick it up Is there any way to "lobby" Criterion for titles
