Movies not on dvd being shown in HD & 5.1?

DirecTv's new HD Movie station has been showing some great movies that aren't out on dvd yet. They show all 2:35:1 movies properly & everything I've seen so far has been in 5.1 also. Some are Eddie Murphy Raw, Year Of The Dragon, After Hours, and this week- Greystoke- Legend Of Tarzan!! If they have these amazing HD 5.1 transfers why aren't they on dvd yet?

Lack of supplemental material; home video rights; many reasons.

Maybe get a HD player/recorder?

I was going to check out an HD recorder at Best buy tomorrow. Do they record on a hard drive or tape/disc? Also, can you record any HD program then (DirecTv or local from my digital antenna)? I thought the studios didn't want you to be able to have HD copies of the movies?

I think the lack of supplemental material is often a reason - the studio is waiting for participation from someone involved who is busy right now.

Another thing could be marketing. The studios like to tie in releases to other releases from their own and other studios. For example, Fox sat on All That Jazz for a while and waited for Miramax to set a date for Chicago on DVD so they could release ATJ on the same day.
