Takashi Miike's Dead or Alive Trilogy

I just finished watching the second installment of the trilogy and was floored ... I need to own this series now! I saw that Kino International had put out the first DVD (which I have already watched), and had done a limited release of DOA:Final in theaters, but couldn't find any information about DVD releases of the second and third parts. Does anyone know anything about these? A DOA box set would be pretty nice to have

as far as i know, doa 2 and doa: final are only available in regions other than r1. but i'm guessing kino has the rights here and will put them out eventually, seeing as they have the trailers for both on the doa dvd and the shark skin man peach hip girl dvd. takashi miike is tops!

There is a Hong Kong all-region NTSC DVD of Dead or Alive: Final which came out a few weeks back. Picture quality and subtitles are so-so. The Tartan Region 2 DVD of Dead or Alive 2 is region free but it is in PAL format. The picture quality on that isn't great either. Those are probably your best bets right now if you must have em. And nobody has announced any info on a Region 1 release of part 2 or 3 yet. I really like parts 1 and 2 but 3 was a bit of a letdown though.

Tartan's reputation precedes them ... other than the Battle Royale tin they did, I don't think I'll be owning their discs any time soon

Decent region-free boots of the Japanese discs with English subs are widely available on eBay, but it's best to wait for Kino's DOA2 & DOA: Final. If legit Miike DVDs sell well in the US then more will be released in the future.

I was pleasantly surprised with Kino's DOA release. They can be hit or miss transfer-wise but they did a top-notch job on DOA.

I really loathe buying boots, so I'll wait and see if there's an announcement from Kino. If not, I can just import them. I seem to remember reading something else on these forums about a boxed set, though ... that would be excellent.

If you see a boxset it's a boot. From what I've heard, the best version of DOA2 is the Japanese DVD, but it has no English subs (which is why the boots are around).

The boxset was, I think, supposed to be released by Kino here in R1 ... I can't find any information about it on their website though, so I'm not sure if the news I got was outdated or if I was just making things up

GRAR! I just ordered DOA: Final from DDDHouse. I wasn't aware the first one was out here in R1. I may have to wait to watch Final and order and get the first one first!

*sigh*

Surely Kino will bring out all of these. I just watched the first one and was blown away. I'm dying to see 2 and 3 especially after seeing the whacked out trailer for DOA3.

I was surprised at how much better DOA2 was than DOA. My friend just watched final and said it was the least of the three, but I'll still check it out. I have yet to be disappointed by Miike, and I've watched all his R1 stuff and a fair amount of his non-R1 films

The trilogy has been released in R1! It somehow slipped under the radar, but Amazon says the boxed set was released 11/25. Anyone checked these out yet? I haven't seen any reviews for them, but I'm really not expecting phenomenal picture quality or anything, given the source I am definitely going to pick these up, though!

Doing a bit of research seems this is decidely something I would enjoy so ordered from DVD Pacific and shipped today. Good price at $50 for the box so appears stock is out there.
