Is this Ritek Fist of Legend legit?

Hi Guys,

I supposedly purchased a Ritek DVD of the movie Fist of Legend on Ebay. It was advertised as being widescreen and having Dolby Digital 5.1 Surround sound. However, on the box it says that it has a 4:3 aspect ratio and only stereo sound. Could someone please confirm whether I received some kind of knock-off?

Thanks,
Robert

BTW, it does say that the running time is 106 minutes, and the link on Ebay to it is here:

That's way too cheap to be an original Ritek disc. The video is approximately 1:85:1 non-anamorphic and the sound is DD 2.0. Running time is 106 minutes.

Like most HK films at the time, Fist of Legend was shot MOS (without sound) but the most "correct" soundtrack is a combination of mostly Cantonese and Japanese. This disc in question appears to have the Mandarin dubtrack (due to it being a Taiwan release) which sounds weird, because it has everyone speaking Mandarin, even the Japanese characters. Not sure if the ebay disc is legit or not (but the price does seem too good to be true), but I'm holding out for a better release (hopefully soon!)

Thanks for all the feedback.

Well, I think I may just hang onto this copy until the "better" one come out. At least with this copy (should copy be in quotes?) I get to see the full version.

P.S. Has there been any inside information about a newer version?

There's also the French 2 disc version which is uncut but has no english subs.

Mmmm. ---just looked at the technical details. I don't speak french but on the part that says:

"Langues et formats sonores : Français, Anglais, Cantonais
Édition collector"

Does that mean it has the english dub or subs? I don't speak French so if someone can translate that it would be much appreciated.

There won't be one. Miramax/Dimension owns the worldwide distribution rights to Fist of Legend and it will be a cold day in Hell before they permit a complete version of "their" film to come into existence while they can still peddle their chopped-up, English dubbed version. The Ritek DVD is the lesser of two evils; the audio is a Mandarin dub but it contains the opium scene that the U.S. and Hong Kong versions lack. I don't know if the French release has it or not, but, as previously noted, it doesn't have English subtitles.

I'm suprised there isn't a bootleg version of the french version with english subs. Also doesn't the french version have the subs burned in?
