shouldnt all companies be doing this? I suppose in a few years when my hearing starts to go...I'll be plenty pissed about it. how hard is it to include this feature? anyway...I agree and hope they correct this. this is an essential need in my book.

Yes...i just find it very strange how they can produce such high quality releases and yet overlook the fact of catering to viewers with hard of hearing.
It's something i don't currently suffer with and hopefully won't it's just a shame they are limiting their market in this manner.

Lustig has always had some strange aversion to subs. He explained his reasoning in a post on the Mobius board, but I can't remember what he said about offhand.

There's an interview with Bill Lustig over on the DVD Maniacs site where he discusses this along with plans for some future releases.

Just finished re-watching "Snuff" last night. I saw it in college (many years ago) at a campus "cult" film screening. I must have been pretty loaded to even make through to the end of this stinker. Barely made it thorugh a second time. If it had been given the full treatment like some other BU releases I might consider keeping it, but it's going on the chopping block today.

I do admit that it has a strange, surreal quality to it, but the overall incompetence and ugliness bring it down to the level where it can't even be a guilty pleasure (which reminds me I gotta get rid of "The Mighty Gorga", too).

Anyway, looking forward to the Larry Cohen stuff now.

Just out of interest....is there going to be a fifth disc included as what was intially promised or has this now been scrapped?

Also..anyone have any idea of what supplemental material is included on each of the features?

Isnt that the set that included a film they thought they had the rights to, but had to stop the release? (venus in furs)

Just making sure you guys caught <b>Cinema Gotham</b>'s interview with Larry Cohen about <b>Q</b>.

Also, I've got <b>Q</b>, <b>God Told Me To</b> and <b>Bone</b>. The first two are outstanding (you're going to love the commentaries) but I haven't had a chance to watch <b>Bone</b> yet.

I am watching snuff at this moment. It is pure torture, and it is not what I remember.

EDIT: This is my only movie in my collection that has 0 menus. When it finishes it just plays again. If you hit the menu button it restarts the movie. Weird

The first dvds i picked up from this company were

Emanuelle In America & Salon Kitty.

I saw Emanuelle once about a year or two ago on a fully uncut boot someone traded me. Movie turned out to be very good. So i made sure to get the dvd when released & threw out the ****** boot(which i NEVER bother paying for,this was probably the 3rd boot i've ever seen,crappy quality as usual...thus i've given them up for good). Now if BU has the guts to release a film like this fully uncut. Maybe they could try getting Cruising,since their is no way Warner would release that once they find out what the uncut material consists of(hardcore footage & so forth,X/NC-17 rated material)?


I have never seen Salon Kitty before,let alone have not watched it yet. I will eventually. Hope the film turns out good. I'm still trying to locate a uncut copy of the directors Caligula,which i've never seen save for brief bits of the butchured R version on Cinemax.

I also picked up Dead & Buried when released. Have never seen the film before either. Was always interested in it,but it was impossible to find for rental like just about everything else thats obscure,thanks to the death of the Mom & Pop video shop!

The movie turned out to be excellent & really gave me the creeps! Very cool i think knowing that while todays horror sucks for the most part & delivers no chill factor. The real cool horror films of the past still hold up well!

I also decided to pick up Contraband on a whim of it being supposedly extremely violent & brutal as all hell. Since i've seen a few Fulci films which i liked. I was willing to give it a chance. Yet as usual. Fucli is hit & miss. This was a miss in my opinion as the film did nothing for me. Had some brutal moments though...but i traded the film the very next day.


I'm really interested in those Larry Cohen dvds. Have seen both Q & God Told Me To a few years ago on video. They were pretty cool & interesting from what i remember. Have never even heard of Bone. That is a maybe check out sometime. Yet i'm very tight on $$$$$ at the moment. So i don't know if i will buy any of these dvds right away or wait.

Since the way things are going. I was limiting my purchases for this month to 3 titles. The Howling SE,The Vampire Lovers (have never seen,but been wanting to)..& the Day of the Dead SE(since it's on sale for $15 at Target..might as well take the best offer possible while i can).

I may at least pick up Q,yet we'll have to wait & see.

I'm also very curious to check out the Mondo collection being released soon. I've heard of Farewell Uncle Tom which sounds so outrageous. I just have to see it for myself! Since it's only in the box set. I'll have to pick that up..& am curious in seeing the Africa Addio documentary among others anyway. + since they are totally uncut. All the more reason to purchase them,since they are very rare & may never be released elsewhere for years to come,if at all!

We'll just have to see how much that set costs & my financial situation is at the time. Since yikes are there to many must have releases this year. Though i could always save the biggest releases(Alien & Indy) for Xmas,though my familes cheap & refuses to pay those prices for box sets. So maybe i should ask for the other lower priced single movies?

Also i really want to see The Prowler & the early BU releases. Since they are being rereleased & should be easier to find + priced right. I will get them eventually. Also need to pick up The Crazies & Vampryes which were good movies.

So hmmm,i guess maybe buying at least one BU title a month will be best? At least it leaves room to purchase a couple other titles as well when i feel like it.

Yet their are too many releases..& such little $$$$. So i have to choose carefully.

I'm curious to see "Uncle Tom" too.

And I wonder if a Spaghetti Western collection Volume 2 is in the works...

I highly recommend The Crazies. The Romero commentary is great, and the movie has never looked better. My favorite non-box set BU release so far.

I just rented "The Crazies" last night haven't had a chance to watch it yet. I rented most of the BU stuff before i buy it, love the slasher stuff(Prowler,Toolbox murders) not crazy about the exploitation films they have released but i did think the Emanuelle in America disc looked really good.

Tonight's the <b>Q</b> screening at the Pioneer Theater in NYC. I don't know if Larry Cohen's going to be there (he may be sick) but it's worth checking out. The info on the theater is in the <b>Cinema Gotham</b> article...

What's the matter with Larry? I hope he's OK. Anyway, even if Larry doesn't show, the BU crew (Bill Lustig, Jay Douglas, David Gregory, etc.) should all be present. It'll be fun either way, but I hope Larry feels better in time for the screening...

Yeah, I don't know what's wrong. They only said he was ill. Unfortunately I can't make it, but you DVDTalkers can always talk up Cinema Gotham to the flick fans there...

Had a great time at Q tonight. The print was somewhat faded (as is to be expected for a theatrical print that's over 20 years old), but looked very nice overall. Cohen was not present, but he and BU put together a priceless video introduction that was shown before the feature. It was funny and pompous and pure Larry Cohen. Everyone who was there really got a treat.

Bill Lustig had pre-signed DVD covers for all 3 new Cohen DVDs, which was a pleasant surprise (I only expected him to come prepared with Q). Cohen was kind enough to sign 50 copies of each title, and everyone there who wanted one got one from Bill. Bill expects to have Cohen in for a screening of one of his films at the Pioneer some time next year. Bill also seemed to be the only person from BU in attendance this time, as I didn't see Jay Douglas or anyone else around.

Next up for Blue Mondays at the Pioneer will be a screening of "The Godfathers of Mondo," a new feature-length documentary on the Mondo films directed by David Gregory (The Joe Spinell Story, etc.). Of course, no one from the Mondo films will be present nor will there be any pre-signed covers, I would imagine.

I have purchased every DVD released by Blue Underground. I have done so because I want to support a company which puts out high quality genre releases. I am willing to try different types of films. In fact, I always have been. I actually enjoy the variety which Blue Underground releases. I did enjoy Quiet Days In Clichy as well as The Shape Of Things To Come. I enjoy bad films which have something remarkable about them. I can understand how purchasing the output of one company might confuse someone, but it is merely another form of collecting. It is similar to collecting all the films of one director or one actor.
