That is strange. I prefer OAR and the best a/v quality(the R1 pics do looks better). If it's barebones, that's fine. Extras are secondary.

After reading this

I'm waiting for the region 1 release. Yeah, the extras are nice but I want to see the whole screen and not part of it cut off.

I hate Universal. Though arent the movies owned by a differnet company in differnet regions? So maybe they own the rights to the extras too? Anyone know?
I think the covers are cool though. Even PoD.
Where can I find a multi region player though? How much are they and do they have the same capabilities as USA players?

IMO a good DVD-Rom drive is a great region free players.
1)Plays all formats without any headaches, DVD-R/RW, DVD+R/RW, SVCD, etc!!
2)Region Free (some are region free by default, some need firmware patches)
3)On your computer, PAL/NTSC issues don’t exist
4)No RCE issues
The only drawback is you gotta connect the computer to a TV.

Connecting your computer to your tv is pretty easy if you have a GF4/5, Radeon 9X00 because they have S-Video Out on most of them. If you have an HDTV with a DVI input, just use your DVI output from your video card straight to your HDTV.
I currently have a 27" Sony (not HDTV) connected via an S-Video connector, dvds and games look great.

Two things just occcured to me -
the r2 might have just a lot of overscan.
Also - perhaps this is the preferred ratio for home video. (other examples are Apocalypse Now's, The Recruit's and Austin Powers's modified aspect ratios).
