Daredevil UPC ... a sticker?
I just bought Daredevil (WS) today at Target for $9.99, using the $5 off Fox Entertainment coupon I received via email.
I looked through a couple and picked one out. When I was waiting in line at the checkout counter, I looked at the back of the package and noticed that the UPC code was covered with a UPC sticker (same as a regular UPC code, except it is a sticker). The sticker is under the plastic, right on the paper cover.
My question ... do all copies of Daredevil have a UPC sticker over the place where the UPC code is normally printed on the cover? Not that it probably matters, but the UPC code is "0 24543-07788 6" with a "22" in the upper right hand corner of the sticker.
I can probably take a picture of it and post it somewhere if people want to see what I am talking about.

I believe the two digit number ("22","50",...) to the right of the UPC is some kind of tag that indicates the type of security devices or which stores the DVDs are marketed for.
Most of the stores carry "50" or "5?". Target carries "20" and probably now "22". Another studio that has a similar scheme that comes to mind is Artisan.

I own over 1000 DVDs and this is the first one I have purchased where there is a UPC sticker ON the case, rather than stuck on the plastic wrapping or printed on the paper cover.

In the case of Fox DVDs, a "00" represents no security device, "20" represents checkpoint (e.g. Circuit City), and a "50" represents sensormatic (e.g. Best Buy).
Buena Vista does a similar thing. The "00," "01," and "02" all represent security devices.
Most companies used to have completely different UPCs to differentiate between security devices, but several have switched to having the same UPC but with 2 number markers used to differentiate the security devices.

I wish more companies would do this. My Gangs of New York had a UPC sticker on the plastic wrap, which I was allowed to send in for a $5 rebate through the store I bought it at. Most places, you have to physically damage the cover by cutting out the UPC, which I will not do.

I don't have an issue with it on the plastic wrap. I just don't like it on the DVD case plastic cover.
If you had to send the UPC in, then you may have to cut the Plastic cover of the DVD case to get it off (unless it peeled off easily).
