You know you think about DVDs too much when...

You know you think about DVDs too much when dream about them at night. Last night I had a dream that some of my CH fulfillments came in the mail, but they were actually VHS tapes. And then to top it off CH charged me double the actual price. It was a pretty much a nightmare. I can still see the Gremlins VHS cover in my head, I think I am traumatized.

Anybody else have problems when they start to think about DVDs too much?

LOL. :D

Wait a minute. What the hell am I laughing about? That's me.

...when asked when Day of the Dead Divimax is coming out, and I give AB's entire lineup that has been officially announced. Is it a hobby or an obcession? :hscratch:

gutwrencher 07-30-03 03:13 PM

the only problem I have is that the more I think...the more I need. you think 1,000 dvds would be enough...but it's not. there are so many films yet to add to my library..that sometimes I get depressed that it's so incomplete. not stick a gun in my mouth depressed...but you know what I mean. now that I'm starting to buy imports...it's getting even more difficult. oh well...it's so much better than being a crackhead, alcoholic or unemployed. this damn forum does not help either-wink-. I'm just a film freak...plain and simple. with as hard as I work running my small but legendary company....I deserve it.

I've dreamt that my most prized dvd's were sold by my wife. I actually woke up and went to the shelf to make sure they were still there.

When you dream that you got the Indiana Jones Trilogy in the mail, some 3 monthe before the release date,

happened to me a few nights ago. :D

You know you think about DVD's too much when.................

After starting work at 6am on a morning it gets to your lunch break and the 1 hour time period allocated is taken up by driving home 25 miles to see whether the postman has delivered one of your many packages that have been due to arrive.

When you get paid..the first thing you work out is your monthly budget for DVD's let alone fuelling your car that enables you to work and earn the money in the first place and the direct debits on your bank account.....HELP!!! :)

DVD.guy 07-30-03 04:29 PM

rotfl You guys are too funny

As for me, I was very very anxious while on vacation (10 days away from my collection) hoping that they were OK (I was thinking the worst, shelf's falling, theft, etc...).

for me it's thinking of films and the art of film in the form of DVD.. To be honest that is a bit wrong being they are ment to be "films" on a big screen, group of people etc and so on..

but I have started to think of them more along the lines of "Oh that will be a good DVD".......

on some level that is just wrong :) I mean it's almost like say looking at sports cars and thinking "Hey I could park this one really easy".. Just not the angle one should be thinking for that sort of item.. heh

Adrenaline 07-30-03 06:56 PM

I don't know how someone of your collections get to be over 500, I have 69 dvds at the moment, by the end of the year I'll have over 120 (I have a lot of catching up to do on older movies), after I get those however I really only want to get about 10-15 more movies next year and maybe some of the DS9 seasons, but that'll be it.

Do you just movies, just to get them or do you actually enjoy all 500+ movies you have?

let me shed the light on you. personally...I love owning the films I love. I dont give a **** what format they are on....as long as they are presented right...or as best as they can be. now...hold on to your seat...but I love way more than just 1,000 films. try maybe....1,400...or more. and guess what....I desire to own each and every one. it's called having a film library that I can use as enjoyment and research...whenever I wish. so the answer you seek is...I get so that I may enjoy. anything else would be just...plain...silly. some collect only to watch once then re-sell. some may have a big ego they like throwing around. but if loving a lot of films is a crime...put me in a rubber room and throw away the key. just leave the collection with me.-wink-.

malkmuz 07-30-03 07:34 PM

When I moved from California to New Hampshire (don't ask), I was a big movie fan, but only owned about 30 movies, mostly on VHS. It wasn't until I moved here and found out there was NOTHING to do that I started buying a lot of dvds. Then someone send me a link to this place. Then I bought a surround sound speaker setup. Then I became region-free. Now I buy probably 10 discs a month, on a very tight budget.

Anyways, to the topic, I spend more money on dvd's than I do on my credit card bills, and most of them are blind buy's based on stuff you folks talk about. Now THAT is nutty. :consume:

That's cool, I don't have a problem with other people having a lot of movies I just didn't know the reason. I just can't justify buying a movie if I don't really like the movie, that's why my collection isn't as big as most I think.

Maybe when I move out and live on my own I'll have a collection that amounts to 500+, because I'll have more money and won't be limited to "parent approved" movies (ie Bound, Species etc), my parents don't care if I get a bloody action movie like Total Recall or Predator or a horror movie like Halloween but anything that has a lot of nudity/sex, even if it's not a porn movie I can't wouldn't risk getting with my parents around.

....when you amaze a friend who asks "what day of the week is November 14?" with an immediate "Friday" because you know Terminator 3 comes out on November 11, a Tuesday...

When you forgo food in order to get the weekly roundup. Seriously. Thank the ones above that I don't have any kids. Think there may be a parallel to that one ..... hmmmm???

lesterlong 07-30-03 10:13 PM

....when you're at the theatre watching Bad Boys 2 and when the Columbia logos appear you sit there and wonder should I douple dip on this one?

....when you start equating prices of everyday things to DVD prices..hmmm those concert tickets are $40 that's 2 DVDs maybe 3 if I get 'em on release day.

.....when your number #1 goal in life is to own the complete Criterion collection.

boc4ever 07-30-03 10:25 PM

When you spend several days trying to decide whether to use your Costco $5 off postcard and $5 mail in rebate to get Daredevil for $8.99 eventually or go to Target and use the Fox Home Entertainment coupon and get it for $9.99 this week...

Yep, same here. It's a good thing though.

You know you are obsessed with dvds when you let your close family members borrow a dvd and every waking moment all you do is think of that dvd and how you miss it.
