I don't have the original, but judging from reviews of the SE, it doesn't sound like it.

From DVDFile:

"An underrated sleeper, the feel-good sports drama Rudy at last gets the special edition treatment. Starring Lord of the Rings' Sean Astin, this two-disc set includes the film's original soundtrack CD as the bonus disc, along with a remastered version of the film in anamorphic widescreen, a Dolby Digital 5.1 remix, audio commentary by director David Anspaugh and members of the cast and crew, deleted scenes, a featurette, talent files and trailers. Retail is $27.95. "

My thoughts exactly. Very upsetting...

woemcats 07-29-03 10:06 PM

All of those features are on my SE DVD. DVDfile had also posted that Rudy was making its "DVD Debut."

If that's the case, looks like more money to spend... :)

My SE is scratched badly, might as well just get this...

GuessWho 07-29-03 10:41 PM

The commentary would be new, it's not on the current SE

Tarantino 07-30-03 12:17 AM

Hmmm, never seen Rudy. I'm guessing it's good?

AdamComic2 07-30-03 06:31 AM

Exclusive Featurette: "Rudy, The Real Story"

These are the specs from the old one: The new disc is a bit different, I stand corrected.

Original Featurette: "The Production"

Featurette: "60 Seconds with Sean Astin"

Isolated Music Score

Talent Files (Director David Anspaugh, Sean Astin, John Favreau and Ned Beatty)

Widescreen anamorphic format

EDIT: In best James Brown voice, NOW WAIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIITTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTT A MINUTEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE................

Rudy Press Release
I revert to my former statement.

Can't you read the cover? It's without a doubt, one of the finest sports movies ever made! ;)

Seriously, it's a damn good movie that works on levels beyond the simple sports story. In a lot of ways, I guess it can be compared to the original Rocky in that the triumphs don't come from "winning the big game."

Rizor 07-30-03 08:59 AM

This may be a bit disappointing, but from other spec lists it looks like it may as well be a repackaging with a CD. I guess DVDFile got their info wrong. :(

Mr. Cinema 07-30-03 09:39 AM

Hmmm, I wonder why Columbia couldn't have had this version ready when they released it a couple of years ago.....Oh, that's right, then they couldn't have ripped people off by double-dipping.

Geofferson 07-30-03 10:38 AM

the soundtrack is awesome! I may have to double dip for this one.

karnblack 07-30-03 10:50 AM

I already have the special edition, and I have the soundtrack signed by Jerry Goldsmith. So I will probably not be picking this up.

Yes the soundtrack is awsome.

El Talon Del Monstruo 07-30-03 02:25 PM

well this stinks, but I love the movie and never bought it the first time around, so it's on my to buy list

DrMcKittrick 07-30-03 03:17 PM

I have the SE. I'll stick with that.

That sucks... I din't even know there was a Rudy soundtrack worth listening to.

Sonicflood 09-10-03 02:12 PM

Is it in fact remastered? Video &/or 5.1 Audio- wise?

This is one of my top 10 films of ALL time!

elias 09-10-03 03:24 PM

I like Rudy and have the SE. I'll stick with that.

I wouldn't buy another version if Rudy delivered it AND let me tackle him! :)

Cartload 09-10-03 03:28 PM

Maybe Tech will win the football game at the end. That would be cool.

James Brown didn't do Shout, it was the Isley Brothers, or Otis Day and the Knights, if you prefer.

AdamComic2 09-10-03 05:55 PM

Fair enough.
