Thanks  i'll be picking this up.

Class316 07-20-03 11:16 AM

I wonder why they'd waste space, time, and money on the 16x9 version!!

Gallant Pig 07-20-03 12:13 PM

So it looks better on Joe Caviar's 16x9 tv.

:D

yea but how many of these would there be? Like almost none. So why would it be worth doing?

I wonder, is this the first case where something 4:3 is cropped up to 16x9?

MrBob 07-20-03 12:22 PM

Evil Dead BOD, is cropped from full frame.

Skull 07-20-03 12:45 PM

Sweet, can't wait to pick it up.

Jackskeleton 07-20-03 01:24 PM

I'm glad they remastered both version. I recall a thread a while back stating the only remastered version would be the 16x9.

Add shipping to this price and it’ll basically be the same price Best Buy would sell it for.

No, they did the same thing to Super Speedway IMAX. I think a few other IMAX titles may have it. It's also done to all 2.35 movies on HDHBO.

jekbrown 07-20-03 02:29 PM

maybe "enhanced" 16:9 means they added animation to both sides of the original 4:3 version? :) besides, doesnt everyone have a WS yet?

Time for an upgrade :(

But the disk sounds outstanding! :)

What a movie

Thanks

Calculon 07-20-03 08:15 PM

DVD-18?

No thanks, I'll stick with the current version.

Jackskeleton 07-20-03 08:41 PM

sucks for you.. really, one side seems to be holding the OAR and the other 16x9, I say screw it and get it. what's so wrong with one side you wont be playing anyways?

Tarantino 07-20-03 08:42 PM

Just because of what kind of DVD it is?

Jesus.

I'll be picking it up.

jekbrown 07-20-03 09:18 PM

no doubt. Ninja Scroll is a great animated flick. The art is just dripping with the style that most anime fans dig... really high quality stuff no matter what the aspect ratio is.

I'm still on the fence about this one, i'm waiting for a few side by side comparisons before I cough up the money .

I'll bet that it just means anamorphic widescreen, which is better than P+S full frame on any TV.

Besides, I've got a Toshiba 50HX81 which is 16X9 and I'm far from Joe Caviar. If you are going to buy a new TV these days, there are many, many 16X9 sets that are affordable. It's not exactly rare anymore.

Yea but in this case the oar IS full frame. So it's anamorphic P+S widescreen, which is just as bad as P+S full frame.

The DVD for the miniseries IT is in 16:9, while it was originally shown in 4:3.

Anchor Bay's "Book of the Dead" edition DVD of the Evil Dead crops the 4:3 frame to an anamorphically enhanced 1.85:1 transfer. There's some debate over this, since Evil Dead was initially filmed for theatres, but has been available in a "director approved" open-matte 4:3 transfer for decades.

Does anyone else think that a $34.95 SRP is pretty steep for what this release consists of? I was really looking forward to this one too, but now I'm not so sure.

You must be new to buying anime on dvd.. At that price, I'm sold. ;)

cultshock 07-21-03 05:03 PM

Manga hasn't impressed me very much with their DVDs so far, so I hope that they surprise me and do a great job with this DVD (it sounds like it will be very nice anyway :) ). Still, I'll wait for the reviews before I pick this one up.

slop101 07-21-03 06:04 PM

I'm surprised they didn't go for a 2-disc set instead of a flipper.
