quality of creative art design special edition dvd transfers?

I'm am new to the forum (this place is the best!), so this has probably been covered before, but I can't find any info anywhere because I can't get the search feature to work. Please point me in the right direction, thanks!

I'm curious about the dvd quality of the Creative Art Design special editions. Are they the same dvd's you'd get in the regular versions, with just a bunch of fluffy packaging, or are the dvd's re-mastered or anything like a superbit or criterion dvd would be? I don't care about the art and packaging, just the quality of the dvd.

I am curious about these in particular:
The Exorcist (contains the 25th anniversary edition dvd - is this the exact same dvd as the regular 25th anniv. release, or is it different?)
Full Metal Jacket
2001:A Space Odyssey
A Clockwork Orange
Blade Runner
The Matrix

My guess is that they are the same dvd's with different art and very elaborate packaging. I hope I am right, because it would sure cost a lot to go out and buy them! Is there a website with info on these releases?

You guessed...wisely

I have the Wizard of Oz, but I only got it because it was on sale and I didn't have the movie on DVD.

Most reissues as you surmised, use the origonal pressing of the movie and bolt on a 2nd disc in a nice shiney new box with bells and whistles.

Any good reissue which cleans up the print or improves the sound will probably make it clear on the box they have done so.

check out freznos dvdconnection

they have an excellent comparison section

My fav is the Army of Darkness movie... 6 different versions of the same movie so far and counting.

Original Release (08/18/98)

Limited Edition (10/12/99)

Theatrical Version (10/12/99)

Limited Edition - Director's Cut (07/25/00)

Bootleg Edition (10/23/01)

Boomstick Edition (03/11/03)

Cheekymunkey, basaro was asking specifically about the Creative Designs art box DVD sets. As Milo says, the discs inside are identical to the regular versions. Only the packaging is different.

The extras are superb on many of the Creative Design Art editions, but be warned that the boxes are HUGE (well, comparatively) and will likely require a special storage place in most collections. Still, if you're into extras, some of these packages really excel.

Also, some of the higher end Creative Design Art packages include signed senitypes / artwork / screenplays. Which is nice.
