I thought I heard fourth quarter 2003?

The Void 07-11-03 08:58 AM

This is awsome. I HATE P&S and Christmas Vacation was the only movie I bought knowing it was only P&S. I have been VERY anxious to replace it with a widescreen copy.

I can see this will be a great Christmas. Now if they'll just do the same for A Christmas Story. I've held off on buying it so far.

The guy in that DVDFile thread said this also. He said to expect an announcement soon. Possibly for a release the same day as Christmas Vacation.

Christmas Vacation is not P&S.. it's Open Matte.

I wasn't sure if it was 2004 and 2003 and with no announcement so far, I assumed it was safe to say 2004.

God...this year is killing me for DVD's

Parts of the movie may have been open matte, but not the whole thing. It's been awhile since I've seen the dvd, but there are definitely some scenes that look to be P&S.

kevin75 07-11-03 09:35 AM

this is great. i have been putting off buying this because of the non widescreen ratio.

Samuel 07-11-03 09:53 AM

Great news, too bad it's still a snapper though.

MasterCXtreme 07-11-03 10:04 AM

Okay, I'm happy that they're being re-released and everything. And I bet the extras will be great. I DO like the cover art..... but WHY GOD WHY DOES IT HAVE TO BE A SNAPPER!!!:grunt::thmbsdwn:

Vacation is going to be a snapper too. I thought all the DVD companies realized that snappers suck, since they've been re-releasing alot of them with amaray's. Well I guess not. I'll buy it anyways, but that just bothered me.

PixyJunket 07-11-03 10:25 AM

 @ MasterCX

I think at this point only Warner is using snappers. Everybody else that was using them have shifted. I think the only reason they are clinging to them even though they know people hate them is because they own the company that makes them. How much money could that possibly be saving them?

Geofferson 07-11-03 11:01 AM

Great news - eagerly awaiting this one!

Bill Geiger 07-11-03 11:04 AM

This was actually annouced some time ago by warner bros in their chat at the Home Theater Forum. Vegas Vacation will be released in 16:9 as well. They also stated an SE of a Christmas Story just in time for Christmas this year. Here is a link to the chat.

They answer the question regarding Snappers as well!

uteotw 07-11-03 11:11 AM

I'm GLAD to dump my non-anamorphic copy for this and will in a heartbeat, but is the only addition the updated transfer? Still 2.0, still no extras?

digitalfreaknyc 07-11-03 12:10 PM

If it says "special edition" written all over it...i think there's going to be SOMETHING special about it.

Yes, I would hope so, but there was nothing listed in the features above AND I've seen anything from "chapter selections" to "dolby 2.0" listed as "special features."

I'm getting this one regardless, but I'd love some real special features...

Gcomeau 07-11-03 12:31 PM

I can now get rid of my VHS copy. Yay!!! Plus the original Vacation in Aug!! Time to celebrate!!!

For the lazy here you go:

"JoshuaClinard: Warner has recently begun to release DVD's in keepcases, which most DVD collectors prefer over snappers, but only in certain reigons. Why not in Reigon 1? I have a smaller ratio of Warner films in my collection than other studios because of this. I only buy the must-haves from Warner. Could you release a few on a test-basis, to see if sales improve? New Line has seen the light, why haven't you done the same for all regions?

Warner: Snappers are here for the moment, but we are committed to Digipacks on all 2 Disc special editions and multi disc sets. "

Ladies and gentleman, thats what I call a tap dance! They did not even answer the damn question, they simply said that they are here. Well no they are not, WB is the only one left putting out that crap.

Edit: Almost forgot to give my $0.02 about Xmas Vacation. :D Its about time to put that VHS to bed.

sn9ke_eyes 07-11-03 12:48 PM

$ cha-ching, there goes my money.
