The Final Countdown Again

DavidDVD.com just posted a street date for The Final Countdown, and Convoy for Aug 19th. The company is Triumph Marketing (never heard of them). Does anyone know anything about this company? Hope their not as bad as Pacific Family Ent.

Triumph Marketing appears to be a sister company of Pacific Family Entertainment. I would avoid at all costs until someone reviews these discs.

While I'm wary of a new release...

... thanks for putting the old Europe song in my head.

"d'd'DOOdoo, d'd'doodoo..."

If so, I suspect this is simply a marketing ploy to get even more suckers to purchase a ****** release of it. I will also definitely wait for reviews. And if they confirm it's crap again, I'll finally purchase the R4 version.

This picture actually was responible for me to buy a zone free player! See my name in profile or DVD exchange for trade, I have 3 copies of this great 1980 DVD Region 4 Australia and one that I play every so often the music is stirring.

Those F-14 Tomcats roaring off the carrier or over the yacht, BTW the DVD is Dolby Pro-Logic. Has chapters unlike the PFE one that's like a Vhs, you don't know where to go to see a scene over again.

http://community.webtv.net/costus/TheFinalCountdown This was x, y, scaled form LBX to anamorphic from JVC SVS500BK with ICOS mod for x , y, scaling of PAL discs.

Pacific Family Entertainment doesn't own Triumph. Triumph is just a distributor for PFE discs.

Just as an FYI, this was posted at davis dvd:

Due on August 19th from Triumph Marketing are Convoy (best song... ever) and the cult classic The Final Countdown. No disc specs are available for either. Just a warning: if Final Countdown is the same region 1 disc released through Pacific Family Entertainment, stay away from it at all costs; the non-anamorphic widescreen transfer is simply atrocious.

Just bought a Region Free DVD player so I could watch The Scarlet Pimerneil. I have trying find another movie I could order from the UK.

The Final Countdown is one of my favorite war/sci-fi movies, so it looks like I will have to order from amazon.uk.

Looks like it has better video qaulity than the one from the US.

How is the video quality?

Great that's why I bought 4 of them 1 for me about 2 years ago and 3 for my Traders in DVD Exchange. I don't know how crude this webtv homepage is. I'll make up a few pictures, I can do that even though the Region is 4. :)

I have never seen the U.S. edition, so I can't compare. But I have seen the the R2 UK edition... and it looks like crap. It's a grainy, shimmering mess.

That may be the case when converted through to NTSC displays but on a PAL TV it’s more than acceptable, no award winner but light years better than the PFE mess.

These actual DVD pictures are best viewed on Wide Screen HDTV with a line doubler.

This was x, y, scaled from a LBX 2.35:1 now anamorphic. Enjoy it guys :)

Do most R2 DVD look bad when played on NTSC?

My Scarlet Pimperneil looks like a TV show, I was hope it would look better on my NTSC TV.

My website is finished, and close to the end you can see Scene Selction

I have finally made the images you see as big as it would take, to fill the largest projector or HDTV in the world. All scene selections are towards the back. Those Tomcats were really loud, if you view at the sound I prefer.:)
