Ok, I need to see some posters ... and do tell where you get them from! :)

Hey RobCA:

Are those poster/prints 11" x 17" size reprints? I've seen many of them on eBay recently and was wondering is the quality was any good. If yours are, care to take a close-up of one of them & post it here?

I want several posters that are WAY out of my price range and the 11" x 17" reprints look like the most affordable way for me to go. I want a Dial M for Murder poster SOOOO Bad!

TIA

Sonicflood

They're 11" by 14". I bought them at a little poster shop in Vegas a few years ago.

The quality's pretty good, but my camera probably wouldn't do them justice.

I love using framed movie posters as art. We have a 27" by 40" poster of Hedwig and the Angry Inch over the fireplace, one of Love! Valour! Compassion! in the kitchen, and The Broken Hearts Club and Jeffrey in the bedroom. I used to rotate them with other posters every so often, but we've had these up for quite a while.

RobCA and CosmicBus:

where did you get your shelves? are they homemade? if so...plans?

RobCA 07-09-03 12:28 AM

I ordered mine from this site.

It's the one at the bottom of the page, in oak & black.

Rob,

Nice Collection. Do you know a good place to get the poster frames from?

Cosmic Bus 07-09-03 09:08 AM

Mine is from Sauder that I ordered for about $25 during a sale MediaPlay had several months ago. The two shelves on the wall are extras that came with the unit; no fancy plans for those, just a few wall brackets and sheetrock anchors.

Thanks! I get mine from Aaron Brothers. I think that's where I got the ones in the above pic. I try to wait until they're having one of their 1¢ frame sales. Which, BTW, according to their site, they're actually having right now  so I'll have to stop in and pick up some assorted poster frames I've been needing for a while.

Can someone please take a look at the picture on the first page of part 2 of this thread? I really need a rotating shelf just like that one but have no idea where to find it. There were several links on that page of the thread, all of which were broken. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

CDs and DVDs. A few more have been added since this was taken:

There's one. Do some searching for "tokyo multimedia storage" or "rotating dvd storage" on Yahoo/Google and you should probably turn up more stores that offer this unit. I have a similar unit that is smaller that is very nice and stable.

Cosmic, that rack looks nice. Let me ask you, does it fit DVDs perfectly? I've seen one too many DVD racks that are made primarily for CD's that when you convert the shelves to hold DVDs there's odd spacing. Also do you have a closer shot of it?

I'm also interested in getting some smaller sized movie-poster prints because the larger ones take up too much room for me and framing them is too expensive. Do you remember where in Vegas the poster shop is? I'm heading to Vegas in a month. Thanks.

Try 14x36 inserts. I like them for the same reason you mentioned. they don't take up the space requred for 27x41 one sheets. They are originals and stopped making them around 1985.

Since we are talking HT decoration (posters)....

Here's a pic of some of mine hanging in my dedicated HT:

Here's a few of some of my recent purchases:

are these DVD collections or museums? (in terms of quantity)

It can hold either CDs or DVDs (hence the two extra shelves that were included), but it seems to fit DVDs perfectly IMO. Whether you've got all single Amarays or some doubles mixed in, they're never too loose or too tight. Snappers fit a little bit oddly, but that's because snappers suck. ;) I wish the very top shelf had a little more clearance above the cases (it's about half what the other shelves have), but aside from that I can't complain.

The unit looks slightly bowed here, but I think it's the angle the shot was taken at.

I really dig this thread... once I clean up, I will post pics...
