Didn't see this posted.

Good news.
From TV Shows on DVD
We're happy to pass on the news that season sets of "Married... with Children" are coming. Just a few minutes ago we got off the phone with someone at Columbia TriStar who confirmed that the studio is working on the first season set, with an expected release in early October. Please note that this timeframe is not solid and may change.

I am not sticking up for columbia but I think they did the best ofs to test the show, since they weren't sure if it still had an audience, and then the clip / reunion show was a hit and sealed the deal.

Seriousy though, they released Sanford and Son, Good Times and the Jeffersons right off the bat in full season sets. "Married"s fanbase should at least be as broad as those if not more. Do you think there will be any extras or is that just wishful thinking on my part? I wonder if any of the cast or creators would even bother since the show was canceled so abruptly. Definitely one of the best comedies ever.

My guess is that there won't be much in the way of extras on the Married set. I'm hoping that I'm wrong though! I'm definitely going to pick up all the seasons with Steve Rhodes. After that, I will take a wait and see approach to buying the seasons. At least I say that now. By then, the completist in me may finish the job. Hope they come out a little faster than some of the other shows have.

It was never a question about how popular the show was, I think it had more to do with the fact that the show is still very popular, and runs 5 days a week in most parts of the country still. Sanford & Son, Good Times, Jeffersons, they might be on TV Land, but syndicated reruns have much more exposure.
On top of that, Married also runs on FX 6 nights a week I believe, so it's not too difficult to find the episodes on TV. Look at others shows that have yet to come out like Seinfeld, or the molasses-like rollout of The Simpsons. These are the most popular shows in syndication. While they might not come out and say that's the reason, it's certainly a contributing factor.
That's why the sent out the best-of discs as a feeler. They sold well despite all of these factors, and then the reunion was a smash hit, and as stated above, that sealed the deal.
