HBO's Legendary Nights BOxing Documentaries
I was wondering if they plan on making a dvd collection with these documentaries along with the full fights. I think it would sell great, and HBO has basically rights to 99% of the greatest fights ever. Anyone know if they might release this?

I sure hope this comes out soon.

yeah, I would buy it first day at MSRP. Cost doesn;t matter for a collection that good.

i was excited when i first saw series being billed,.
but some of the fights they chose were a little weak, considering what they have to work with. I found some of the commentaries and interviews rather dull and filled with a bunch of filler to make them longer. i didn't get the entire bowe/holyfield- bowe/golota - lewis/tyson those weren't very memorable tyson/spinks would have been good. griffen/jones jr. would be good- , Nunn/James Toney was great fight and story, both young & undefeated, toney comes into Nunn's hometown virtually unknown, and is way behind and knocks out Nunn in the 11th--- hopkins/Tito would have been good, just to see tito get flattened again. |

I watched all those fights - except Tyson/Spinks on HBO
i was pretty sure they owned the rights to that, since Tyson was their man in the 80's |
I wouldn't mind at all owning this series on DVD.
But there were some previous boxing specials that HBO came out with during the mid-90's that I thought were fantastic. One was a "fights of the century" documentary that covered historical bouts like: Jack Johnson/James Jeffries Joe Louis/Max Schmeling and Muhammad Ali/Joe Fraizer (Their first fight) And another special, hosted by George Foreman, covered the legends of the Heavyweights: John L. Sullivan Johnson Jack Dempsey Joe Louis and Rocky Marciano As for "Legendary Nights", I thought the show was well done (Favorite episodes had to have been Chavez/Taylor,Cooney/Holmes,Bowe/Golota...Forgot how crazy that was!!) But I wish they would've replaced Lewis/Tyson with a real fight like: Gatti/Rodriguez (Greatest comeback I've ever seen) Barrera/Morales I (Greatest toe-to-toe action I've ever seen) Hamed/Kelly (Naz's memorable welcome to America. And the fight delivered) |
definitely a great series. They plan on releasing more, most notably one documenting the Gatti vs. Ward Trilogy.

doesa anyone know if they will be on dvd?

HBO had a series on VHS called "Boxing's Best". They profiled legends, big fights, different styles, etc. I'd like to see them get a release soon too.

Yea, Gotti-Ward 1 and 3 were awesome

The one that I saw covered:
Johnson vs. Jeffries Louis vs. Schmelling Ali vs. Liston (re-match) Ali vs. Frazier Great special not only for a boxing fan, but for history buffs as well IMO. |
