Bad Boys DVD: SE or Superbit?

Lookin' to pick up the Bad Boys DVD...which one should I get? Does the Superbit look much better than the SE? How are the extras on the SE, like the commentary?

I like the SE's extras - Bay gives a good commentary track, despite his mediocre skill - but as with all films, you want sound and picture first and foremost.

The transfer on the SE is the same from the previous release years ago. It's good, but by today's standards, poor. There's so little detail in some scenes, it looks like someone's got a smoke machine in front of the camera - then, the characters stand outside and POW! the picture becomes stellar.

The video bitrate is rarely above 2 or 3 mb/s.

If I was buying tomorrow for the first time, I'd get the superbit. A Bruckheimer movie in DTS? A new transfer? Is it really a choice?

The superbit looks amazing. This was the first movie I watched with my new progressive scan player. WOW! It looked great.

While the commentary track on the SE is fun and somewhat informative, I'd go with the superbit. I don't have a nice HD TV or anything like that but i noticed a difference in picture between the two versions (the DTS track kicks butt as well). I'd rent the SE to listen to the commentry but buy the superbit.

I upgraded from the SE to Superbit. The DTS track and PQ of the Superbit version simply rocks! I wished it was a Superbit Deluxe though, since the extras on the SE was cool.

I like Superbits generally but some of the extras on the SE are really cool, which is why I have not made the "upgrade" on this one yet. Too many titles I DON'T already have, I guess, to justify it. The sound on the SE is excellent, but as noted the picture is fine but not top notch...

I don't have a progressive scan DVD player or a HD TV...I have a Toshiba 20" TV.

I will add that the Snatch Superbit on the 20" looks great...AND, during the summer (now) I enjoy my parent's 50" TV with some amazing surround sound. Should I still get the Bad Boys Superbit?

The transfer is not new on the superbit. It's the same source as the SE version of Bad Boys. Notice the dirt on the print at the beginning of the movie.

Just wanted to add that I bought the SB last month. Make sure you buy one with the free ticket to Bad Boys 2! I'm still waiting for that to be released.

Could it be a new transfer, but from the same source then? Because a definite improvement has been noted. From what I gather here, the DVD public say the same thing.

I don't think it's a case of CH giving us same transfer, upped bitrate again, but I could be wrong.

I'd go with the Superbit because of DTS sound and a better video transfer. That's worth it over a commentary track that you'll probably only listen to once.

A related question:

Is the Mask Of Zorro Superbit Deluxe a huge improvement over the SE? Both have a DTS track.

The free movie ticket most likely makes the Superbit version cheaper. Hell, go ahead and buy it, keep the ticket, and if you think you would rather have the SE afterwards, we can trade.

Not a huge improvement, but it's a damn good transfer. Both have a little bit of EE and Haloing, though...

I bought the SE & Superbit Of Zorro and the quality on the Superbit is superior then the SE in contrast and detail of objects. I saw it on a LCD projector and glad I picked this up.

I think both version had the same extra's but with out the commentary.

Bad Boys Superbit is still on back order, can't wait.

I read a bunch of reviews on Zorro, debating whether or not to upgrade. Almost every review I read said that the improvements were minimal.

I picked up the Superbit today and got the free ticket worth up to $12 or something...so pretty much the DVD cost $10 or so, not too bad. I was definitely going to see Bad Boys II in theatres, so a good deal all around.

Question is, this Superbit doesn't seem as good as others I've viewed. Is it THAT much more improved over the SE version? Is there a DTS track on the SE version?

While I am a fan of this movie and Superbits, it seems I should've gone for the SE version as long as the audio/visual are similar to the Superbit. I enjoy Michael Bay's commentaries a lot, so maybe the SE is the way to go for me...
