How to clean lightly scratched DVDs and CDs?

I apologize if this has already been covered (couldn't find it) or if this is the wrong forum.

I travel a lot, and despite taking (generally) very good care of my CDs and DVDs, occasionally they develop small scratches (usually point-like specks as opposed to linear rifts). A few of my discs now skip consistently in the same parts.

Can anyone recommend a good solution for cleaning CDs and/or DVDs (if this is possible)? I know there are numerous products available, but I'd like to hear from people with firsthand experience.

Thanks.

This thread may help a bit ... http://www.dvdtalk.com/forum/showthr...hreadid=270779

Or maybe this .. http://www.dvdtalk.com/forum/showthr...hreadid=270953

..I think there's a better thread, but I haven't found it. Maybe the next post ....

EDIT: Ok, here's the one. Now, somewhere in these three threads should be something that works. Good luck!http://www.dvdtalk.com/forum/showthr...hreadid=289837

As far as CD's go, I usually boil them in water.

He is serious. The boiling removes contanaments and such. There have been a few threads regarding this as well. I can attest to it's accuracy (at least for me)

How do you dry your discs after boiling? Air dry will leave watermarks on the discs.

How about DVD? Since DVD discs is made from two platters, will the heat damage the bond on the disc?

I've only boiled mine for 1 - 2 minutes, let them air cool on a lint free surface and then clean lightly with a lint free cloth and water by going from the spindle hole outward.

I have had no dond damage at the 1 - 2 minute mark. Longer periods of boiling could damage the bond in my opinion.

I need to do something as my 2 yr old daughter pried the Oliver & Company DVD out of the tray and then shut the tray on the disc! -eek-
It now plays until chap. 10 then starts over.

Do you think those disc doctor things work at all? Hell, I'll boil it if someone thinks it would work, but this disc is pretty badly scuffed.

You can get a replacement disc from Disney for a small fee.

No kidding! That's awesome.
edit: Thanks. I called and will get a replacement disc. Not a bad deal at $10 for the replacement disc, though I did buy the DVD for $10 during that Disney Store sale. Still, that's good customer service, there.
