I hope you're right about this, but somehow I doubt this will automatically happen, especially with the impending fall of AB.

I know Lustig owns the rights to some of the AB releases when they lapse, but I can't imagine he'll be able to acquire and release ALL of the AB Hammer.

But again, I hope you're right.

I actually think that Lustig owns the rights to all 30 of the Anchor Bay Hammer releases.

In an interview Lustig said that a number of the titles he licensed to Anchor Bay -- including the Hammers -- will revert back to him once they expire with Anchor Bay. And that BU will be re-releasing some of them.

This is from an inteview with Lustig on DVDManiacs.net . In previous Hammer threads, I've linked to this interview. I don't have the link now, but if anyone wants to read it, just do a search for Hammer and Lustig in this forum.

My guess would be that Lustig will get the rights to the initial 20 films (featured in the MIA-double sets)... the most recently AB Hammer titles are from Studio Canal.

Like the dope that I am, I sold all my inidividual titles in anticipation of the double sets. Now it looks like they've been cancelled. Crap.

You can usually pick them up pretty cheaply (and in brand new condition) at stores that sell used DVDs. I think it is because Suncoast kept marking them down to get rid of them a couple of years ago. I bought most of them for 9.99, then a week later they were 4.99, then 2.99. A lot of people were buying them up and trading them in at places that offer 3-for-1 trade ins. You could spend $9, then trade your three sealed dvds for any new DVD in the store. As a result, I see a lot of them for sale at those places.

Do you have any specific used DVD stores in mind?

Thanks!

MGM in the US has the rights to TWINS OF EVIL, VAMPIRE CIRCUS and HANDS OF THE RIPPER. Hopefully--as in the case with VAMPIRE LOVERS and COUNTESS DRACULA--they'll be released in their "Midnite Movies" line. TWINS OF EVIL is one of my favorite Hammer films, and it's Region 1 release has been a long time coming.

By the way, the Anchor Bay Hammer double features have not been cancelled--they are set for release on January 13. I have seen the covers up at some online stores.
