Without a DOUBT... Band of Brothers. A little expensive, but worth every single penny and more. Puts you right in the middle of WWII. Hear planes flying overhead, bullets wizzing past your ears.

One word...AWESOME!!

For a totally *different* (non-action) great surround disc, try Jane Goodall's Wild Chimpanzees. The DTS track on that is simply amazing.

Ok - i believe it can handle DTS - the DVD (which ever one) is for my father. His Sony DVD player is for Dolby Digital and DTS, he also has a Sony Digital Cinema Sound Processor, Bose Equalizer hooked up to the Sony ES Power Ap, and 6 Bose surround sound speakers. I have no idea what all this means- but my sister rattled it off for me....

OK, if your saving Private Ryan is not the DTS, go get the DTS one. It makes a world of difference. Next up is the amazign LOTR:EE with DTS, must own. I really like Armageddon Criterion for its sound. Die Another Die in DTS is also very nice.

Moulin Rouge has some really good sound. Fear and Loathing is good too!

LOTR: EE in DTS is probably the best

Just make sure it's a good movie. Pearl Harbor might sound good, but I'd rather have my balls cut off then watch it again. Maybe your father doesn't feel that strongly about it... but try and pick a movie he likes and not just based on sound

I've always liked Tomorrow Never Dies, Star Wars: Episode I, and Moulin Rouge as demos.

Here is a thread I started awhile ago that talks about DVDs with the most active rear speakers.

http://www.dvdtalk.com/forum/showthr...=rear+speakers

Highlights from the Thread:

Quick list from the thread:
Air Force One (DTS) or 5.1 Dolby
Apollo 13 (DTS)
Eagles - Hell Freezes Over Tour (DTS)
Gladiator
Goldeneye
Meet Joe Black (DTS)
Saving Private Ryan (DTS)
Terminator 2
The Haunting (DTS)
The Matrix
The Mummy (Ultimate Edition) DTS
The Rock
The Thin Red Line (DTS)
The Who - Live From Royal Albert Hall (DTS)
Twister (DTS)
Star Wars - The Phantom Menace
U-571 (DTS)
What Lies Beneath (DTS)
Hannibal
RUN LOLA RUN in Dolby Digital
CHASING SLEEP in Dolby Digital
MOULIN ROUGE in DTS
The Fast and The Furious-dts
SUPERMAN THE MOVIE
Desperado Superbit
The Rock: Criterion
ID4
Requiem for a Dream
Charlie's Angels
The Fifth Element Superbit
Super Speedway (DTS/DD) (Quote from dvdfile.com, "This is perhaps the best demonstration disc I've seen to date. ")
Stormchasers (DTS/DD)
T-Rex (DD)
The Magic of Flight (DTS/DD)
The Patriot
Black Hawk Down
Fellowship of the Ring (If you have not listen to it yet, go buy it and enjoy!)

Here is the review for Super Speedway:
http://www.dvdfile.com/software/rev...eedway_dts.html

Here is the review for T-Rex(dvdfile.com gave it good audio makrs):
http://www.dvdfile.com/software/rev...cretaceous.html

Could not find a review on Stormchasers, but it must be really cool to listen to.

Clock Stoppers:
Some of the best rear speaker sceens on the DVD
1. Opening credits (very cool credits and active sound!)
2. Last 15 minutes of the movie (seems like the rear speakers never stop: music, glass, voice echoes, running around sound...)
3. When ever they are in "HyperTime" (Voices are in echo mode, all speakers play and give a true surround sound)
4. Movie throughout the movie is played on the rear speakers
5. Whenever the go into "HyperTime" (Big sound when "HyperTime" is turned on during the battle sceen at the end)

Welcome to the forums! Please look at Iron_Giant's thread, or do a search for "audio reference." This topic has been covered plenty of times.

Closing duplicate thread.
