Spirited Away
The Good the Bad and the Ugly

After watching it a few times, I really don't like Kirsten Dunst's job with Kiki and Phil Hartman (while pretty funny) almost ruins the intent of the movie. I much prefer the subbed version. Spirited Away was handled much better, IMO.

Most Italian movies from the 60's (or later) don't suffer much from dubbing, because the Italian's dubbed all the dialogue in later, anyway.

Metropolis.

(Note: I mean the anime movie; this isn't some ironic comment based on the silent nature of Fritz Lang's Metropolis )

The dubbed version of the Killer, while really bad, is hilarious... it has even been sampled numerous times by the Wu Tang Clan and some other rap artists/groups.

Oh, and a little off topic, but the worst dub IMHO is Run Lola Run.

I second that. I hate that Moro has a male voice in the original track even though Moro is female.

How about "Danger: Diabolik"?

Actually, I'd have to disagree with you on this one, that is, if you are referring to the very first video version of the film. Normally I despise the dubbing of movies, but The Killer always comes to mind first when I think of movies that are well dubbed. In fact, in some ways I prefer it to the subtitled incarnation.

I disagree. I tried to watch a few Fellini movies, and I found the dubbing to be so annoying and distracting that I couldn't get into them. I cannot stand dubbing in any form. I just constantly stare at the peoples mouths, and it looks so horrible.

In the original track Moro IS a male. They changed the gender in the dub.

Very good. Not only the dub but the language translation.

The dub on this one in all languages is terrible. Including the original.

Better Dubs:

- Ones supervised by the director (probably the only dubs I'd listen too... and even then, I might as well watch the original anyways)
- Ones with an accurate translation.
- Ones where the actors try to sound like how the original characters are supposed to be.
- Ones that have the original actors translating (I'm sure some Jackie Chan films from Hong Kong have been dubbed in English, using Jackie Chan...)

Overall though, I know that I'd hate if someone took my work, changed it to make it "better", but still thought of it as the original work. It's not... it's altered. So I don't watch dubbed movies, even if the actors in the dub are better or the story is made more clear. That's like replacing Jim Carrey in Ace Ventura with Alec Guiness... maybe he's a better actor, but the movie is now different.
