a Bug's Life CE - rerelease - worth the upgrade?
I missed out on the original Collector's Edition of a Bug's Life and settled on the Gold Edition. I spotted the new CE for $19.99 at Best Buy yesterday and was VERY tempted. I saw something abour Finding Nemo on the sticker (a trailer, maybe?).
Anyone tell me if there's a huge difference between this and the Gold Edition and if it's worth a re-purchase? Also, is this the same as the original CE, and does this new CE hold any special value (like the other original Disney CEs/SEs).
Gracias.

Good deal - thanks, folks. I am not able to take advantage of the anamorphic feature yet (32" Sony WEGA), but I'd rather have the best version if there are quality/feature differences.

Sleepy,
I believe you Wega should 16:9 squeeze, which would let you take advantage of the anamorphic feature on this disc. I have a 27" Wega and it works great!

The same aside from a very, very brief Finding Nemo promo. Other than that, the vastly lowered MSRP, and different packaging, they're identical.

The original 2-disc set has been out of print for a while. This new disc is not meant as an upgrade, so much as an excuse to bring it back to market.

Set your dvd player to 16:9 widescreen and your wega to 16x9 and be amazed ( you should use the component hookup fpr best picture)!

I snagged the rerelease for the simple fact that it has a slim case. My original CE was the double case which I hated.

Sleepy,
No, it doesn't squish the picture. It un-stretches it.
As gjamesm said:
Set your DVD Player's "TV Type" setting to 16x9.
When you're watching anamorphic dvd's set the WEGA to 16:9 mode.
When you're watching non-anamorphic widescreen dvd's and/or 4:3 dvd's; set your WEGA to 4:3.
BIG IMPROVEMENT!

Thanks guys - I'll take a crack at it and see what happens. I've had one or the other set on 16x9, but never both at the same time....I'm curious to see how it looks (I already have component cabling hooked up).

Thanks for the info. I saw this yesterday and almost picked it up, but I was curious how it compared to the previous releases. I'll be sure to pick it up next time.
I'll have to tell me little brother about the 16x9 feature on his 27" Wega. That's pretty cool. I already love the picture on it, but if it gets better...

I hope it's worth upgrading from my VHS copy...
I hadn't bought this on DVD because of the price and then not being sure which copy to get. When I saw this for $18.99 at Costco the other day I snapped it up.
My understanding is that it's not worth upgrading if you have the previous 2-disc CE, but otherwise it is.

I saw the new Collector's Edition at Target the other day for the usual $19.99. Is it cheaper anywhere else online or B+M? Someone mentioned Costco having it for 18.99 but there are none by me.

This was one of my earliest special edition DVDs. I pored over every little bit of the extras. It truly is worth upgrading.
