The Frighteners - Buy now or wait for an SE

I had this movie recommended by a friend of mine as I love horror and spoof horror movies. Is it worth getting this as a blind buy now or is there a SE release on the cards in the near future.

cheers guys

Its a good movie and the laserdisc was loaded with extras but the dvd is barebones. It was recently re-released with a new and awful cover so I doubt a se will happen any time soon. Its a shame since the laser was so good.

I picked it up for less than $10 new on sale about a year ago. It is worth it since there is no word of an SE anytime soon.

Wait with the rest of us...

Have you seen if Columbia House has it? If you can't wait, you may as well get it cheap.

I think it's going to be repriced later in the summer. So at least hold on til then.

yeah, there is an upcoming price drop... this has been my number 1 most wanted SE... I email universal about once a month about the SE, because the laser disc box was extremely loaded... and I'm sure with LOTR there will be a market for this...

as for the film, it's one of my all time favourites... I saw it in the theatre and just loved the hell out of it...It's well worth owning.... and if you like it and want an SE, please email Universal and tell them how you feel!

I'm actually surprised that a SE hasn't shown up yet with all the success of PJ's LOTR films. They could have just ported the laserdisc stuff over, it was director approved! I guess maybe he wants to supervise it, but it doesn't look like PJ's schedule is winding down anytime soon with King Kong on his plate next after ROTK, so who knows when he'll find the time.

I bought it a while ago. What's the new cover? I've got the one like the theatrical poster - completely white with the evil face prodruding.

The movie is anamorphic, 5.1 DDS and includes the trailer and production notes. You might want to wait for the price drop, but it's well worth the money, even without the LD extras.

A very cool film with lots of plot twists....

The new cover is an ugly "faces" cover. I too have the original. Great cover!

Love the movie too. I would highly recommend anyone to pick it up!

A pirated version of the LD rip is already being sold on Ebay now. Universal needs to figure out that people REALLY want this disc to be re-released.

Buy it now, just make sure you have a good subwoofer to fully enjoy it. Peter Jackson definitely loves bass-filled soundtracks.

This could we why Universal is holding off on an SE for the time being...not because PJ is too busy, but Universal is the studio behind KING KONG... so they may do a Frighteners: SE around the time of KONG, so they can slap a sticker on the cover that says "from the director of LOTR and KING KONG"... also, LOTR would probably really overshadow a release now, but in a few years, hopefully they'll put it out....

The new cover is horrible

Thanks for all the info guys. I managed to pick this up over here in the UK for £6.99 (approx $10), and it still has the old cover on it :)
