the big lebowski
amazon.com has a listing for a second big lebowski to be released "june 3, 2003" but looks like the same cover art. is this true? if so i'd better return the copy i bought today ... also, is there only one release version of this film on dvd?
|
There is only one release with BOTH fullscreen AND ANAMORPHIC Widescreen. Perhaps this is only a price-drop and not a rerelease?
|
|
Hmmm, wouldn't a (Big Lebowski: SE) be sweet?
|
Woo-hoo. $14.98 MSRP means sub-$10 sales.
Anyone find a decet "pre-order" price on this puppy yet? DDD has it listed for $9.35. Not a *great* price (based on a $15 MSRP) but pretty good - about 40% off. They had better deals on the Artisan and recent Fox price drops. -- Jough |

I wish amazon would stop listing price changes as new releases.

thanks for all the help.. i watched it last night, i couldnt even wait for an answer.. what a great movie! an SE would do that movie justice, I strongly agree with a commentary track. and for probably the first time i wouldnt complain if it wasnt dts, and just included great extras.

All I want is English subtitles on the DVD. There are some pieces of dialog that I cannot make out.

That doesn't look like a shooting script - probably someone's transcription from the film. Definitely suspect. Notice no writing credits on it.
Anyway, despite the availability of a script, I too like having subtitles on a film, if only because my hearing isn't so good, and I often watch movies (usually ones I've seen before) late and night and don't want to wake up the whole house. Still, nice price on this title. It's not a bad disc. I mean, if any of the Coen's films need to be re-released, why not re-visit Raising Arizon, or Hudsucker Proxy? -- Jough |
You all can thank me for the price drop.
I just broke down and bought the current release at the old price 2 weeks ago. You're welcome. |
Doesn't the dvd have closed captioning on it?
|
i could understand subtitles too, considering it is a very dialogue-driven film and very cleverly scripted.. im not much of a director oriented film afficionado, are the coen's traditionally not into SEs?

The Dude abides.

I would love a SE for Lebowski which is my favorite Coen brothers movie but I doubt we'll ever see it knowing how they seem to want their movie to speak by themselves.
I don't think we'll ever have another commentary track by the Coen Bros. I was totally astounded to find one on "The man who wasn't there" and after listening to it, I couldn't help noticing how it sounded like it was much of a pain in the a** for them to do it. Still, the commentary track on Blood simple is one of the best I ever heard. Like they say : "Movie Magic!" |
I have noticed that when films haven't had subtitles available I have often been able to turn on closed captioning through my tv. Perhaps you should try that.

Since there are no shot numbers, no stage directions, no noticible commentary of descriptions, that "script" wouldn't be suitable for shooting an actual film.
It looks like a transcription. You can find lots of them online. And yes, sometimes people will add-in parts from the original screenplay. As for Brian Stew, the DVD is closed-captioned - so if you turn on the CC on your television (provided your set is from 1990 or later) you can read the transcribed dialogue. As is usual with CC, they get some of the dialogue wrong, but it's pretty close, and usually accurate. The people transscribing the captioning usually have pretty good ears. -- Jough |
