Not to sound snooty or anything. But it is OOP, as you said. Your not really going to find it anywhere. Maybe you get lucky and find a used copy at a pawn shop or something along those lines, but you will almost never ever find it retail anymore.

Yeah, what REL77 said. I found mine a year ago at a swap meet. After I paid for it, I asked him why he didn't put it up on eBay for more $$. He said he was just too lazy.

You're just gonna have to get real lucky nowadays. Or just bite the bullet and part with some $$$ for it.

Hmmm, I think I might know where one is. I'm prolly going there this weekend so I'll let ya'll know. BTW, I've watched both the Criterion and the new SE release and aside from: 1. the extra feature on the CC that is not on the others; 2. the fact that it is a CC and fits in a total CC collection - I see no reason to own the CC version as the picture quality is terrible in comparison. I just watched my SE edition the other day and it was like seeing the movie for the first time again, much brighter and clearer picture. I sold my CC on Fleabay about a month ago with no regrets .

If you have Slaughterhouse Five, I'd be willing to trade!

Yeah, I've got one on my DVD shelf! I got lucky on eBay and bought from a seller w/ low feedback. Seems taht people are wary of buying from new sellers, so I got a good deal on the disc. Also landed a Dances W/ Wolves OOP DTS disc last night (I guess this is a deal...)

But, to your question: I think eBay is really your only bet. A thread earlier said that SecondSpin.com usually sees some of these come through, so check there as well. Good luck!

I have an extra copy that I'd be willing to trade for another Criterion.

My top wants are:

For All Mankind
Tokyo Olympiad
Wild Strawberries
Time Bandits
Solaris
Band Of Outsiders (+ $10)

but I'd probably be open to many others that I don't have.

(Moderator: apologies for doing this off the trade forum, but I'm just answering his question...)

Spun.com seems to have a used copy for sale every few weeks. I got one Wednesday for $17.98

Rypro 525 05-24-03 09:10 AM

I've seen it at fye in owings mills recently but I doubt its there.

Cosmic Bus 05-24-03 09:13 AM

There's a copy at my local FYE for $39.99. It's been sitting on the shelf for months. :)

I snagged mine in a used CD store last year for $13.
The rest of the collection was pretty good too:
Hannibal $8
Manhunter LE $8
Lambs MGM $10
Red Dragon 2 disc $11

Used is your friend.

I have seen many people say that they thought the MGM SE picture was TOO bright and ruined a lot of the effect of the darkly lit scenes.

I couldn't disagree with you more. The commentary track on the CC version is worth the price alone--it's still one of the very best commentaries I've ever heard. The picture quality isn't the greatest, yes, but that's why I also own the MGM version. Also, the documentary on the MGM version is pretty good. I think both versions complement each other very nicely and that's why I have no plans to get rid of either one of them.

There are an awful lot of bootleg copies floating around on Ebay so be careful when bidding. I'd suggest along with the others you check out flea markets and pawn shops for your best shot at getting the real deal. That FYE deal sounds pretty sweet. I just bought Straw Dogs CC for $39.99 and it's worth every penny.
