ADAPTATION cover and CLASSY CASE- Bravo Columbia

I got to see the new ADAPTATION tonight and am 100% pleased with what I saw- a very nice, clear Amaray case with a double sided cover (thus no insert). Looks very classy, the way many of the R2 European dvds are designed. Bravo Columbia....finally someone figured out that having the original poster for the DVD case/art and a simple but very elegant clear case is the way to go.

I hope they make a trend out of this.....

Yup, it looks nice. My only complaint would be the quotes and awards banners splashed all over the front, but I understand why they have to do it.

I noticed the clear case when we got copies in at work last week, but didn't realize it would have a double-side cover. Very nice!

Still, as much as I loved the movie, I'm going to try and hold off until an SE comes out.

Since there is no official word on the status of an Adaptation SE, the reviews were very good on the picture and sound quality and the fact that a Superbit title is usually cheapest when it first comes out, I'm going to get it right away--as a blind purchase even.

We're still waiting to hear about a Panic Room SE. But, I also thought the Panic Room Superbit had really bad video quality (especially for a Superbit).

It did. And it didn't have a very high bitrate, either... average 6.94. That was one disc that was Superbit only by the virtue of them slapping that name on it. Yes, I AM bitter about it. It's not nice to blatantly lie to consumers about your product.

I know this movie seems like perfect material for a Special Edition, but I'm not holding off... maybe in a year columbia will announce something, but looking at Being John Malkovich, it seems Jonze/Kaufman aren't fans of extras, so I'm not holding my breath... I think they really just want the film to speak for itself...

Nope - Susan Orlean has already said she's been contributing to the upcoming SE. This is just another case of Columbia's all-too-familiar greed.

Once again... I'd rather have the MOVIE in my hand ASAP... let them take the time to fiddle with making an SE for later. Especially for fans of the movie in question, another $20 a year or more from now isn't really going to kill anyone. Buy it, don't wait.

I'm sooooo glad to hear about the packaging. I was so afraid that they'd screw it up like they did on the Panic Room Superbit release. Looks like they learned after all.

Yup--looks excellent. A very odd choice for a Superbit, but I'm just glad to have this one. Very cool...

I ahve to admit, I'm glad they didn't cheap out and do a Panic Room style case. But I don't understand why they don't use the Silver Superbit cases like pretty much every other Superbit has.

I think they wanted to not advertise the fact that it was a superbit release... I know personally that if it had one of those silver cases and crap I wouldn't have bought it, but since it was normal packaging I got it. I was teetering on the edge of waiting for the possible SE, but I'm a gigantic Nic Cage fan, so I just couldn't wait since I missed this one in theaters.

My Adaptation dvd had an insert.

It was sort of a joke "letter" to a secretary asking her to look into dvd cases that don't have clips since they didn't need them.

It's pretty funny.

Does this disc have a page with nothing on it?

Best. Supplement. EVER.

I just picked this dvd up at my local best buy and after I opened I realized there was no "joke" insert. I was wondering why some people are getting this insert, and others (myself) are not.

thanks you.

Heh, my willpower is NOTHING. I picked up the DVD today. Impulse buying is much easier when you've got store credit...

My copy had the little "memo" insert, too. I like it.

What are you waiting for in particular?

Panic Room SE *IS* coming out

Again, from Avary.com, which seems to be the place for fincher news lately. Roger had this to say about the forthcoming SE of Panic Room coming to DVD:

The "Panic Room" SE DVD is going to be awesome! I was hanging with Fincher today, and watched some of the supplementary section materials on his ultra-über-Hitchcockian pre-visualization work that simply made my mouth go agape. When I expressed disbelief that he had essentially pre-vis'd the entire movie (mapping out to the inch where dolly track was to be laid), he smiled with that devilish grin of his and smirked out "I know." It's going to be one to own -- for sure.

Well, for those of you who had some doubts recently, it still seems to be coming out. And I couldn't be happier.

The fanboy in me is incredibly pumped right now!

ciao

I was quite pleased...This was a blind buy for me. I truly wanted to see it while it was out and somehow I missed it. Frineds told me some things about it but what an interesting ride...I know this will be a movie I'll ned to see a few times to catch everything.

I like the little "joke" letter and how the chapter stops are on the inside coverart. Very nice case!

for the people that received a insert where did you buy it? It doesn't make sense to me that some would have them and some wouldn't.

does anyone know why some have the memo and some don't?
